Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is the smell in farts, guessing if you mix that H2S with water (H2O) the sulphur atoms of a H2S molecule somehow gets detached from the hydrogen atom to join up with the other hydrogen atoms residing happily in H20 because oxygen makes a far nicer bedfellow than whiffy sulphur. Guessing the mass of sulphur is lighter than water so rises to the top of the bathwater and up your nose as sulphur concentrate!

Can i have a Nobel Prize for Chemistry?;)

That's what all of us thought, you just beat us all to post ?

why do farts smell worse when you fart in the bath?
asking for a friend
Tell your friend.
The steam in the room opens your receptors in the nose.
Coupled with a very small room, and all gas staying together and not displacing around your crotch.
Your nose is ideally placed over the rising gas.
This is according to my science teacher over 40yrs ago , it was asked in class .

The official line from John Lennon when challenged abou this that it is in fact not correct. It was when his kid brought a drawing home from school and when John asked what it was, he was told it was Lucy in the sky, with diamonds. At least that's what John said.
People love a complicated, sophisticated, romantic answer when it comes to song titles and lyrics. The Beatles were brilliant songwriters and part of that skill is how they made very ordinary places, people, situations etc seem extraordinary. If you ever go to liverpool and do the Beatles tour you will find it is a massive letdown. Don't do it if you are a fan, let your imagination run with it instead.

We have the correct answer!!! If it isn't then it's a bluddy good attempt anyway (y)
Lucy in the Sky with diamonds is myth according to a BBC4 programme I watched recently about the recording of Sgt Peppers . The reason behind the lyric was explained.

This is not to doubt that they might have been on the Purple Haze when they recorded it.

I'm from Widnes, about 15 miles from Liverpool so well used to it now. Liverpool as a city is OK and they're doing a lot now after the mess they got themselves in moving everyone out to Newtowns in the 70's and 80's and leaving the inner city as almost a no-go area. But it's like anywhere for your idols. You go for the memories and have to accept it's nothing like it was 50-60 years ago, and it wasn't even like it then if you have a romantic view on life.

To be fair, he was probably on acid when he told that story ?

Even Lennon's old school has been renamed.
