Does anyone know anything about Raa putters. I know they are super ugly. I am looking to book a Edel putter fitting and the fitters other option is Raa. He has asked that I consider both.

The fitting is in Hull so a way away from me and wanted to get peoples impressions of Raa if you have any?

Thanks,

Pretty sure 3565 has one of these after going through the Edel process, not sure where he did it though.

They used to do the Edel putters at Tour X in Warrington but Hull is nearest to me now aswell, probably for the best!

Ahh ok, I might give Ed a shout. Raa are a British brand, high cost but with very little info about I can't see why?

The attraction to Edel is the way they are fitted. It's well documented. Don't want to drive to Hull to get fitted for something I know nothing about.

The Edel thing is first about getting you aimed but I think the putters are all toe up, counter balanced so not for everyone.

Why does it matter what brand it is. If its fitted to you, surely brand makes zero difference?

100%. I just want to know more about them. I am also not sure I could a) pay that much for something that is not really screaming quality to me and b) it could be that this guy gets a bigger profit from Raa than Edel so thats why hes promoting it. I am just on a fact finding mission.

As I say, there are not a lot of people stepping forward to tell me how much care was put into their Raa fitting and how much better they are putting now.... Brand is of no relevance to me. If anything the less well known the better.

He pointed out to me that I should go with an open mind as Edel are toe up, counter balanced putter and not for everyone... However I find out today that they make a classic line too. It may be that they are not available on the Edel cart.

Alex, I have a Raa Classic from Mr Bentley, who is now the putting coach for the Lincolnshire County 1st and 2nd team squads. I got mine in January, the fitting is pretty comprehensive takes about 2-2.5hrs, he goes through everything starting with eye alignment and your perception of how you see a straight line, to using the Quintic system to give you numbers on your putters angle of attack, swing speed, arc, centredmess of strike, impact position, then there's all the ball data launch, roll, backspin and more. Then you getting readings from a Raa putter and compare both, you also do an alignment fitting that edel use to see how you line the putter using laser.

I have to say, that when I first saw the Raa's I wasn't overly keen, but since I don't live far away from him on the 2nd visit to have my fitting I started to like them. I will post photos of my putter, each model have differing head weights, mine is 400g head and all Raa's are fitted with a mid size Winn grip. You have a choice of colour infill, and I've been told that they will mill your name, initials or dot stamp them for you to. Each Raa is milled and built to your spec, you can't buy off the shelf as its a custom fit for you. The price is hefty, £350 and the most I've paid for a club ever, but I have to say that I have noticed a difference in the rolling of the ball, it just seems to keep going. I ought to get rid of my Scotty's as I won't be playing them again.

Sorry about the orientation of photos.

Raa Classic 400g head, 1* loft, grooved face, 33.5" long, with 3 alignment lines on top with the outer ones being a balls width, and one on the flange in line with the top centre line. Black infill apart from the Raa.. On the face which I asked to not be filled in.

So what's different about the putters compared to the Anser style Pings or Nikes or Scottys ?

What justifies the cost ?

Seems very expensive although putters are purely subjective although I'd argue there were equally good putters at a better price and that a SAM lab fitting would give you everything you needed

These are far more expensive than a lot of Scotty's (arguably the most expensive range) and I can't see what these bring that is any different.

Did you forget you'd posted in this thread during your evening finger over the keyboard run?

I haven't read too much into it but I think it's to do with the amount of customisation available. They've thousands of options in terms of alignment lines/dots and combinations of both and (with Edel) you can have a counter balance weight anywhere under the grip that gives the best results. Then the putter is "custom" made to your requirements/specs.

Disclaimer: I don't profess to be an absolute expert before you start asking me for proof or links! ;)

The SAM doesn't give you a visual of what the ball does at Impact tho, so you don't get all you need in the SAM and I've used the SAM.

I'm not here to justify the cost of the putter as its all subjective to each individual's taste and price budget. The putter is a custom fit solely to my specs and needs, I can go into any pro shop or major store and buy the same Scotty, Ping and Nike putter that you have with a similar spec to it. Does that justify the price, no, but from MY personal experience the putter I have will out perform any of the Scotty's and other putters I have and I have noticed a difference and that's what matters to me.

in a nut shell.
Ive been customed fitted for everything else but a putter. We've all bought putters by looks alone but never on performance. We go on Trackman and buy clubs on the data it spits out at us, so why not a putter?

Homer, they sell cheaper golf shoes than you buy and you can only wear one pair at a time. Also why do you spend so much money on lessons when you know what to do, you just have to actually trick yourself to do it. Is constantly paying to ask a question that you know the answer to really good value? No need to answer, I'm not really asking a question.

Money is an ugly thing and I'm not sure it has a place here so often. The fiscal status of the members must be so diverse and therefore people's attachment or value to it must be so varied it makes for a really weak benchmark for the things we talk about. Equipment, clothing and so on.

I agree, why so many question why someone has paid so much on equipment is beyond me! Your money, your choice, I tried, I like, I bought.
