R1 Black is official

Having 'tested' the RBZs and hated the mass of white, the R1 seems a more pleasant subdued cream-ish.

I suppose this is the alternative to bringing out an R1S though, which id TM's usual way to get a second boost to sales in any season.

I expect it'll be a big seller though

Looks very nice and better than the white imo but if they haven't improved the performance then I won't be touching it. Very disappointed with the feel of the current model and thought it felt dead off the face

So they have basically painted it a different colour? Am I missing something here?

Yeah that's it same driver different colour according to there market research 20% of golfers don't like white drivers so they've painted it black so the R1 then can appeal to all players. Available on tour next week and in shops July 1st

Come on, I've slept on this and a jokes a joke. So you can now tell me what it does that the old one didn't, more forgiveness, larger sweet spot, extra 10 yards?

As you're not telling me that by changing a pot of paint in about 10 seconds on the production line in China, that this is being marketed as an achievement? I mean no one would be so stupid to get excited about changing the colour of something, a feat that may have been vaguely impressive in the days of the Ford Model T. But as we all know it's 2013 now guys, we can see an astronaut singing Space Oddity whilst actually floating in a tin can far above the world. There's got to be more to this than a different paint job?

Apparently they have discovered that black has special properties that make the club head travel though the air the faster, so will make your drives go 15 mm further;)

They simply realized that a lot of people were not buying the Taylormade drivers because they were white. its pretty simple really and am unsure as to why you are making it such a big deal? Taylormade sell lots of golf clubs. some of their customers or potential customers have fed back to them that they don't like white drivers, so they paint their current one black to appeal to a larger market thus increasing market share and profits. what is difficult to understand about that?

Do a poll on here and ask how many people would NOT buy a driver simply because its white, i will wager £5 the response will be over 25%. that's 25% of the global market Taylormade are missing simply because of the colour.. It doesn't take a scientist or economist to work that out...
