Question for short golfer

Hi everyone. I'm new at golf and had a question to ask. I am a shorter male 5'2" looking to get into the sport and am wondering if I would benefit from purchasing a junior clubs? Besides the savings in price, would this be the right way to go or how about ladies clubs? I'm a little shy to go into my local store and ask these questions. Any advice would be amazing. Thanks

I'd pop into a 'proper' golf shop and chat the team there. Golf clubs are more about wrist to floor measurement than height, so that could put you in a normal set. I'm not tall, but play with 0.5" longer clubs, because that's what fits me.

That, or buy some platform boots and buy a regular set.

All good! Looks like I may need to take your advice about going into a golf shop (not the platforms!)

+1. Much like your doctor () your local golf club pro really has seen it all and heard every question before (including the stupidest ones you can imagine), whereas ‘I’m a non-average height, what will work best for me?’ is a very sensible thing to be asking them.

My son was around that height when he had his 1st set of fitted irons - they bent them 2 degrees flat to allow for his lower hand to floor measurement.

Junior golf clubs will have junior flex shafts.

Depending on how strong you are go for a fitting and they will recommend the right shaft for you.
(from your monika of mike) Men's clubs for shorter players will normally have a standard men's shaft the shaft shortened and the lie of the club head altered to suit your height.

Go on to the Ping website and use the web fit and you can do a static fit to get an idea.

Yes even a shorter man could be strong enough to overpower junior or ladies shafts.

A good professional will help you choose the right one.
Properly fitted clubs will make the game easier.
Nothing fancy a half set will do until you get better.
Where are you based as people here might be able to recommend someone close to you.

At 5'2", skip junior clubs, they’re too soft and light for adults. Look at women’s petite sets instead. They’re built for your height and adult swing. Try before you buy if you can.

Im 5 3, my clubs are standard length and 2 degrees flat. grips just 1 layer of tape as my hands are small.
No need to look at kids or ladies clubs, I'm also slowly going from a short hitter to often one of the longer ones off the tee too, speed training .
Im playing t200 at the moment but have used all the main brands over the years.
previous clubs have been shortened but never more than 1/2 inch.

When I think of height v golfing strength I think of Ian Woosnam (5'4") in his day probably the shortest player on tour but the longest hitter.

Ladies and junior clubs will be extra flexible and whippy so may not be appropriate for you at all. You can simply buy men's clubs that are fitted an inch or an inch and a half shorter than standard.

Personally wouldn't bother going to the hassle for a quarter of an inch, I'd just grip a normal length slightly lower.

Generally shorter people have flatter swings which means they don't need shortening as much as people think , if at all. More likely just a few degrees off the lie angle.

I had to smile (in the long run). With little knowledge back then I remember looking at Ian Woosnam's irons and wondered why my hosels did not look like his.

Yes I think he played standard length with several degrees flat

first call might be to look at ping static fit to give you an idea and then a local pro or even a decent AG

We have someone who is very short and was fitting with Ping , shorter shafts and the lie a bit flatter

Ian Woosnam is 5ft4. He played normal clubs, just with a flatter lie.
If he can win the Masters with them (amongst many other comps) so could you

Friend of mine is under 5 feet he has normal clubs fitted for him and is a scratch golfer.
