I will ALWAYS help look for the ball of anyone I'm playing with......ALWAYS.
I generally get their help when my ball has gone astray.............it just makes the game more enjoyable.
It's always a laugh when a ball, mine or theirs, is found in a bush, 8 inches off the ground or balanced on a tree root or just about leaving one with a miracle recovery shot.
We're not on this planet for very long, so why not just try to get along, be accomodating & try to find the funny side of a shite golf shot?
And yes, sometimes I do hope my opponent has the occasional 'mare, although I don't enjoy these little inner wishes, but that's just human nature...................as is enjoying this wonderful game and ensuring that your opponents also enjoy the game.

Do you know when your missus asks you to look for her phone, because she knows she put it down on the kitchen table, but it's just not there anymore. Compare that with looking for your FA cup final tickets 30 minutes before your coach turns up. Now do you understand?..:thup::thup:

i have said before i say what some people think be it inner thoughts or out loud when your not in that persons company (behind their backs ) in man enough to say things to peoples faces and i know you will find this hard to believe but have many friends at the golf club and behold,they all know my opinions on many aspects and don't have a problem,elitist,verging on cheating etc etc if that's what you think so be it but i am not a hypocrite like some who post on these pages how in one breath your wishing an opponent to miss or duff his shots and in the next breath say you would dive into gorse bushes to retrieve a ball,pointing out were you think the ball entered the rough is one thing wading into thick bushes is another.

I have read some nonsense in my time on here and it's not right that you keep adding things that havn't been said (diving into the bush ) what you said is that you wouldn't help look at all and clarified it by saying that you would stay by your ball and practice your swing


No one playing in a match wants his opponent to play better than he does, but it is NOT hypocritical to be happy to help him look for his ball. We all want to win but we don't all want to win at ANY cost. If you think that wanting to win means that you should act on the course like a total w*****r, then you play your way but dont suggest that hoping your opponent misses a shot is the same as outright bad manners.

After all you may think that you have many friends at the golf club, but you don't know what they really think about you and their ettiquette may mean that they don't tell you!

so i'm a wa888r ( AM I GOING TO GET ANOTHER NOTIFICATION) you must live in an ivory tower were everyone's farts smell of roses,i have played all over the country in all types of comps over the years and met plenty of golfers who act just like i said,they go into the rough and shuffle their feet for a few minutes then wander back to their own ball normally with a few words like its a goner or bad luck( not meant),to be honest i don't care what people say behind my back as i have good friends who know what i'm like and not this person you portray me as,so you don't like what i do so what you live your life and i will get on with mine but rest assured there are worse offenders than me who would stoop to cheating to win.

Enjoy golf your way - but please, please, don't put your name down for any of the forum meets in this neck of the woods as you wouldn't be playing with like minded players!

is it just me or does this forum revolve around 5 members? who gives them the right to publicly drag me through the s**t,they treat these pages like their own personal property is a forum not to have ideas that are shared,no one is going to agree with everyone but they way some write on here is a disgrace,would they call me a w***er to my face probably not,they seem to think golf is played by holy men who never have bad thoughts and do no wrong,just because i am a new comer and not spent most of my life typing away on these pages doesn't mean my opinion isn't valid,the forum mafia may well disapprove and keep sending notifications about me but why should i not express my opinions and if i wish to put my name on a forum meet i will do so and probably will now just for spite.

I tried to lighten the mood in an earlier post by offering you a temporary residence on the naughty step but your aggressive stance remains. You have your opinions which we all consider, but we also have opinions.

I'd play with you Papy, frankly I couldn't care if my opponent looked for my ball or not. I'd still probably look for theirs though, but that's just the way I am.

nb: I don't think the forum is at fault... we type our own words/opinions that's all. The post wasn't intended to set you up, it was just an honest question based on what you posted on the other thread.

Papyt, if you read your posts back your tone is often aggressive. However it would appear to be your personality as it is consistent with the "win at all costs" mentality you have.

Out of interest why do you take golf so seriously? You are old enough and wise enough (no offence meant) to realise that it is, when all is said and done, a pretty irrelevant competition you are involved in each week at your club.

Are you ultra competitive at everything you do (I see on another thread you used to be a boxer)?

Whilst I disagree with pretty much everything you say I do commend you for being honest!

,he chose not to play a provisional and therefore slowed up play by taking 5 mins to try and find a ball that was probably gone forever and then messing about dropping in the rough.

You cannot drop a ball in the rough if it is lost. You must play a ball, under penalty of one stroke, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played. (Rule 27-1 c)

I am happy to read your postings and dont consider myself in any way important on this forum. We all write our own way and we all have the right to express our opinions - there are a lot more blunt writers on here than me, in fact the majority of my postings are quite light hearted.

Write what you want, but if what you do write is controversial then please don't moan if people get passionate with their replies

i have always been competitive from an early age,i was the same at the sports i played and in my business life,i know in the scheme of things winning a comp. at the club means nothing to anyone else but to me it shows i have achieved what i set out to do,would i cheat to achieve this goal NO like i would never cheat away from golf,what infuriates me is that some on here think i should have to listen to inane chit chat for 4 hours of someone who hasn't set themselves a goal and if they choose to try and play to standard and treat comps. as a bit of fun why should i lower my goals to accommodate them and be mr wonderful,i will be polite and courteous as i would expect anyone to be but i will not be laughing and joking for 4 hours and if i don't think they will find the ball i have stated i will not look for it.

am i the only golfer on this forum that has never looked for an opponents ball?

I don't like chopping bits out of someone's post because taking some thing out of context doesn't really qualify an argument or debate but I've looked long and hard and can't find anything that moderates your position.

I'd guess that the flak you've been getting has led you to post a few generalisations, or I hope, that you maybe in the cold light of day you might change a wee bit.

But "never looked for an opponents ball." If this is true you deserve everything you've got and more.
