i gave the scenario of going into deep gorse and knowing it could be lost not playing a provisional,then expecting the others in the group to spend 5 mins hacking about in the gorse in a faint hope we find it.

Claiming to have been a boxer and using this as an excuse for being competitive and therefore not looking for your opponent's ball is absolute rubbish.
I used to play in the same rollup as an ex GB international athlete, without doubt the most competitive person I've ever played with. He always looks for a lost ball, I see no reason whatsoever why you can't as well.

Not at all. I have no issues with the way you interpret your own game. Mine is different to yours but I'm not going to start making personal judgements. I'm not sure I completely see your arguement though and I'll give a couple of scenarios...

1) Your opponent carves one into the trees then hits a provisional... you don't go and look for the 1st one with him?

2) Playing the last his ball appears to fly the green and into the trees at the back, whilst he's looking in the trees you notice his ball stopped short in the rough (covered by a leaf) - do you tell him?

I don't know if these scenarios are any different, indeed you have no reason to answer is you prefer not to.

As I stated previously, I don't really care who I play against as in reality the only opponent I ever have is ME, I'm the one swinging my club!

If this is true you deserve everything you've got and more.[/QUthe word never was meant not to be taken literally and should have meant sometimes,and i don't believe anyone who says they haven't,so what people are saying is that you hit your ball to the extreme right in the rough your opponent hits to the extreme left so you both go to your own balls cant find them so you then both look for one ball then walk across the fairway and look for the other ball cant find either haven't played privisionals so both walk back to the tee and repeat the drives,what do you think the group behind will be making of this??

No problem with that - in fact I'm the same. But handicap golf provides a wonderful structure where the competition is really against yourself within some wonderfully 'moral', life-reflecting (imo) bounds. The Spirit of Golf is a good description for me.

That said I'd play in a 4 ball with Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini especially if they were members at Queenwood !!! ( can this be my dream 4 ball for the magzaine profile ?? I'm not sure who to drop to get you in Paypt :rofl:)

i did not beat anyone up,i was provoked and acted in self defence as is my lawful right to do,Hitler had a terrible putting stroke something to do with being lopsided i think.

why would i contact a complete stranger who apart from golf i have no apparent empathy with if i wish to play golf down south i'm sorry to tell you i have plenty of friends i can go with,sorry.

on second thoughts I'd be stuffed, Hitler would be in the trees on the right, Stalin in the rough on the left. You wouldn't care and be strolling off down the fairway, leaving me to look in vain.:confused:
