Putter Picking???

I was always a blade putter user until I "by chance" asked a partner to give a two ball a go..
I couldnt believe the difference, changing putters, unlike irons, requires no change of speed nor direction to use the plethora of weapons out there, why not give them a go?

I have tried mallet types and found I really like the stroke, the weight feels good as does the path.

One reason not to change is that I can get the same feel from my current putter and I love how it performs from range.

The other is the love and trust I have for my current putter, all the hours I have put in with it to improve. A quick fix might help to begin with but I think long term I will end up in the same place whatever putter I choose. Its the amount of time and effort I put in practice that will make the difference!

If only there was a handy putting supplement with this month's GM to help answer this question...

:)

Interesting to read the basis for picking mallet over heel-toe for example.

I disagree, you can be happy with a putter thinking all is fine and dandy, then one day you come across something that just totally changes your thinking, I was always a blade putter user until I "by chance" asked a partner to give a two ball a go..

I was going to post how I never really fancied a mallet type putter and was happy enough with my Ping Zing, but the pro shop had a 2nd hand 2-ball in when I was there on Monday, and I just picked it up and waved it about for a minute and couldn't believe how nice it felt. Kept thinking about how nice it felt until I couldn't stand it any more, so I went back down the club and tried it on the practice green for about half an hour.
End result, paid for (with an old club and a voucher) and picking it up tomorrow having been shortened to 33".

I was going to say all that, but Brendy summed it up nicely for me. :D

My first putter was a Ping Answer 2 and a very nice putter it was too. As I improved my game I got frustrated that I wasn't holing enough putts from inside 15' as the ball would just slide by the hole all the time. I worked out it must be my eyes and I wasn't able to line up properly. At the time (circa 2001) the new 2ball Odyssey came out and I took one on the practice putting green. Unbelievable results so I bought one. I've still got that same putter and the face has one very small mark on it but it's in superb condition.

My current putter is a dunlop bullseye style one which is made of brass and is very old. But it gets it in the hole. Just switched from a odyssey white hot, one of the original ones.
