The other day I was watching someone input their score using the PSI system. While he was inputting his scores he must have noticed that something was wrong with his card and he rejected the input and went off to discuss something with his marker before re-entering his card. It came out that his marker had put down a wrong score on the card.

In the old days before we entered our own scores it was clear that once you handed in your card that was it, if you had made a mistake then any necessary action was taken.

These days, at what point does a mistake on the card become relevant taking into account that the card had been signed before he started to use the PSI.

I have often felt that it should be the person who marked the card who enters the scores into the computer after both player and marker have signed to say the correct scores have been recorded. Once those signatures have confirmed the correctness of the scores, nothing should be changed.

That is my feeling but as it's new I was looking at some kind of official ruling/policy information so I can recommend something for the club to implement.

Score is complete once it is entered into the box for us

That makes it simple enough - rather not bring in rules on who enters it into the PSI

I wasn't thinking of making a rule, rather wondering if there was anything in the rules.

Then does it matter ? As long as the card is correct when you pick it up to sort the scores

All new system to the club and as always questions are asked. I'm after an easy life and not looking at complicating things just for the sake of it so if there's nothing official I'm happy to keep things simple.

You have only just started using a PSI ?

It is only relevant once the card has been returned to the committe, Rule 6-6. It has always been the case that a competitor could change the card after it has been signed and I don't see why the entering of scores into PSI should change this.

Once the card is put in the Box... that's it... your score is what you signed for on the card. You may have errored on the PSI... doesn't matter.... its your card that counts.
We got PSI introduced just this year & have found the same... Seniors have picked it up in no time.... there were lots of fears... unfounded. Its helped folk score their cards far better & become aware of the kind of errors that can occur.

Old Skier,
I don't think your question has actually been answered. There is no fixed rule as to when a card is considered returned. It is a matter for each Committee to make clear and may vary from competition to competition. See Decision 6-6c/1 for advice on returning cards to a scoring table and on posting them in a box.

Regarding changing a card after it is signed but before it is returned (which is permissible), see Decision 6-6b/7

Put the scores in PSI, check they match the score on the card, there is two signatures on the card (mine and my marker) and into the comp box. Once it's in the box it's deemed to have been entered and so any errors are dealt with accordingly when the handicap secretary does the competition. Works well apart from having to remember to sign in BEFORE going out. Forgotten that and had to rush back minutes before I was due on the tee. Not good preparation and not recommended

Though I can see where you are coming from, whilst there is no requirement to enter on PSI it'd be difficult to enforce..... & I can see it would be difficult anyway.... would be simply word of mouth that folk hadn't conformed.... tricky, or am I missing something? 🤔
