I see so many people I play with take no care when putting. With decent strokes and good distance control I know there scores would improve if they just took the time to prepare the putt.

I have a line on my ball and use it to align my putt. I have another look from behind once I have and then i go through the motions.

WHat does everyone else do... or don't you?

I try to figure out a line then take my stance but hover the putter above the ball, take a couple of practice swings to see if my path is going in the direction I wish, once I am happy, address the ball and hit it, takes all of 5 seconds too.
Before I started doing this my ball path was never on the intended route and missed a lot of putts, now I find putting fun again.

Depends on the distance...
If im within 10 feet ill always try and hole it...It doesnt always work though...

If im at lag distance then i think of the hole as a manhole 3ft square and just try and get it inside this...

With all putts ill bend down directly behind them and visualize the ball travelling a line and dropping in the hole..
I think of the hole as a clock face and what seems to work wonders for me is getting an image of what time it will drop into the hole at...

I stand up pick a target in front of my ball about 6 inchs away..Have 2 practice strokes while im square to my line and just address the ball and pull the trigger...

It sounds like alot but it usually only takes maybe 10 or 12 seconds....

If its not my turn ill have a look from the opposite side also while im waiting.

960 competitive holes of golf without a single 3 putt.....
No practice swing putts at the ball
Takes 4 secs to make putt.....always
Sorted Rory mcilroys putting after Augusta and look what happened.

Dave Stocktons the name.

The harder you try to make a putt, the less likely it will go in. Distance control is about feel and feel is better when you don't think about it. Pick a line, look at the hole, couple of practice swings while looking at the hole to give you brain the information it needs and hit it. Putting doesn't need to be complicated or long winded. You can tell the guys who think too much about putting, they come off the course complaining they can't putt and usually end up with a long putter :D

A few pratice putts a few steps behind the ball while assesing the line.
(This is where alot people will critisise me) I place the putter head in the address position to aid my alignment, take my stance and then make my putt.
This has helped my putting massivly, alot more two putts dropping.

If there is any break in the putt I use the line on my ball to line up the putt. If I think it is straight for some reason I dont align the line as I never seem to get it right. If its stratight I usually just step up and attempt to hit it firm and straight.

We are lucky our greens are running lovely at the minmute and it has helped my putting enormously!

Found I was missing the line I had chose alot when putting.

So now use the line on my ball to set the line I intend to putt along.

Once I have lined the ball up, I then place my putter perpedicular to the line on my ball. Then I set my feet parallel to the putter head. This has helped me make sure I am lined up to the line I chose.

Once I have done that I just focus on Rolling the ball end over end along the line.

I try and pick the line then make a mental note of something on the green to aim the putt at, taking account of any break,

Make 3 practice swings, place the club behind the ball, take my stance and make the stroke.

Find and commit to line of putt
Line up ball as required
One practice swing to get weight & look at the hole
Line putter behind the ball, 2nd look at hole (this time "seeing" the ball drop in)

c/o Bob Rotella

Cant say I never 3-putt. But I only have maybe one a round now, whereas pre-Rotella I was averaging 5-6 a round.

Pick a line from behind the ball, I rarely do a 360 round the putt.

Line up the ProV1 arrows up to my intended line.

Take a few practice strokes while looking at the hole and the line to get the feel.

Address the ball, I don't look at the ball, I pick a blade of grass behind the ball to focus on.

Exhale.

Execute the stroke up completion of the exhale, still looking at the blade of grass after impact.

I average 28 putts a round so I'm happy with what I have.

I crouch a few paces behind the ball, choose my line, and look for a suitable marker about 12 inches in front of the ball (tuft, spike mark, etc) i address the ball, whilst aligning my feet with the ball and imaginary marker,2 practice strokes, then putt.
The whole process only takes 10 or 15 seconds,i never stray from this pre putt routine, even on the simplest looking putts.

Pick my line, couple of practice strokes, address the ball and go. Once I have the line I'll always go with it. Too many missed putts from second guessing myself when the first read is usually right anyway

Use a line to line it up.

No practice swings

Line putter up behind the ball.

Go.

Have actually improved my putting taking less time and more instinct if i'm honest.
