Portugal Stag do/Golf Break HELP

Portuguese ain't exactly well known for their food. Piri Piri chicken or sardines is about the limit of their specialty. Always disappointed in the food when I go to portugal.

Vilamoura isn't what it was... . The bars are aimed at group of drinking golfers. When I first went there you felt out of place if not wearing a blazer! Now you need a Man Utd. shirt! (only sort of kidding) It has got really scruffy! Restaurants are aiming at Super Boc and chips!

Quinta do Lago has some excellent places - but it's more spread out and Taxis are required. But they are not geared to Stag Dos and are couples orientated!

We went north to Praia del Rey and Obidos a few years back... really nice, it's also the wine region and theres some great stuff too! (they don't export much good stuff!)

First meal I always have when we arrive is a Francesinha, it will certainly fill you up after being at the airport at 5am and a long day travelling. Have to limit myself to one per trip, not sure my arteries could cope with more

Vilamoura is what it is. It's not a traditional old Portuguese fishing port - it's a concrete jungle that has popped up around the marina.

It has a very good nightlife if you want the kind of place that lads trips tend to frequent and it has an abundance of hotels and decent enough places to eat.

There are also lots of decent golf courses around the area.

However, if you want an authentic portuguese experience, go somewhere else. Vilamoura doesn't pretend to be something else.

thats what we did, but the best rated steakhouse and fish restaurant were terrible! I think the standard at Vilamoura is seriously low, which suprises me given the amount of money in those boats in the marina. I suppose the boat owners go to their villas far away from the Irish pubs, brits abraod and hookers.

When we picked four resturaunts to dine in,Three of them were expensive. A delightful young lady in reception said the best resturaunts are in Quateria. We had a walk down the sea front to Quateria and some of the dining places looked gorgeous if sea food is your thing. And apparantly it's a fair bit cheaper. One of the best placed is a traditional place near the gypsey market, opposite lidl or aldi. It was rammed with locals and tourists, and cheap, very cheap. Wish they had brought me a proper steak instead of a flippin turkey steak though.

If you fancy a change from golf, try the Karting at the Autodromo InterNacional do Algarve. Great value with quality karts and guaranteed to bring out the Hunt, Mansell, Hill, Hamilton depending on your vintage.
