playing st andrew in the open

The Old Course is flanked either side by the New and Eden, both which will probably house hospitality/burger bars/bogs etc on some of their holes so you can rule them out. Others are a bit further away, but no doubt will be busy as hell.

If you go on the website, email your query in as to whats open and they'll get back to you pretty quick (at least they did for me earlier in the year).

Alternatively pop up the road to Carnoustie or play one of the many qualifier courses around Fife such as Crail, Scotscraig, Kingsbarns, Leven etc

Depends if you mean actually while the Open is being played? If yes, then the answers above.

But if you mean in the run up to the Open, then the other courses stay open - until at least quite close to the time. We were there a few years back - would have been quite late in June. The stands were going up etc but all courses were open except the Old. Which made it quite quiet generally since many of the foreign tourist players - Americans, Japanese etc - didn't bother coming (because they would not have been able to play the Old). Made it all quite nice reallyand not that busy.

As my learned colleague says on a previous post - play Crail.

Play The Old and The New - do them in a day by buying a day ticket.

You will think you are in golfing heaven at a very reasonable price!

The St Andrews club have one the first saturday in June on the Jubillee course, its the toughest course out of the lot. You can contact the st andrews club for details
