keep talking through my entire swing if they like. makes no difference to me. do people ask the cars to stop, birds to stop chirping and planes going overhead?.

my friend did open a can of coke in my transition once. it scared the bejesus out of me*😀

Are you a Pro or something ?

When do you expect silence - do you seriously think people should be quiet when you're going through a PSR ?! As long as they are quiet when your addressing the ball then that's all that matters - but reporting people for talking

We are amatuer golfers - I'm there for the golf and the social interaction whilst I'm playing

Most golf courses especially your busy Saturday will have noise all around the place - it takes more skill to blank that out - if you can't then you have poor levels of concentration.

Pretty much this. I don't talk when people look like they are getting ready. Ie as they approach the ball to address it.

If I thought someone was distracting me by taking then I would ask them to stop. I certainly wouldn't be throwing a strop. Giving out mouthfuls and refusing to play with them in future.

No double standards as I dont talk when people are going through their routine or address the ball,if people want to do that they can F off and socialise in the clubhouse, people who do talk too much are generally hackers with no focus and dont realise golf is played between the ears and needs total concentration if you want to play well.

I'm sure that with your philosophy on golf you'll have absolutely no problem with idle chatter on the tee, mainly because I doubt anyone would want to play with you! 🤔

My regular partners know I get easily distracted so (most of the time) are quiet when I play. I don't care about when I'm picking targets, practice swing etc, but I don't want to hear them when I'm over the ball about to swing.
I also don't care where they stand, provided they don't move while I'm swinging if I can see them.

I'm fortunate that I don't find it difficult to stop mid swing if need be.
General noise doesn't bother me. I'll carry on if a plane is overhead or a train is going by, but it's the noises from your own group that you expect not to be there that get me. Whispering, hearing trolley wheels starting to turn on the gravel if I'm last to go, and my personal favourite - opening food wrappers. One guy does it slowly thinking it doesn't make a noise. YES IT DOES AND IT LASTS FOR LONGER IF YOU DO IT SLOWLY!!

In general I'll stop talking to someone once they've pulled a club from the bag, if they carry on talking themselves either give quick one word responses or just keep quiet.

When I'm taking a shot I'm the one usually talking during my backswing :D

I used to play with a couple of ladies who were good friends and chatted all the way round.
Once I addressed the ball, they would stop talking
But carry on whispering which is even worse!

I finally had enough, stood back away from the ball and said "Is my golf interupting your conversation?" (I got that line from here!)

That stopped the whispering

I don't actually mind all that much if they're talking quietly to each other but the one I struggle with is when that are still trying to have a conversation with me while I'm standing over the ball!

Oh I didn't realise I hack it around - and all because I like to talk to my PP whilst we play. There was me thinking my level of play is based on my scores and HC

I used to play with a guy who got upset if the players on the green dropped a tee when he was on the tee but he was virtually the last to shut up when it was another persons turn.

For me personally I never get worried about the other guys talking provided they keep doing it. It is when they suddenly stop and all goes quiet or there is a loud "sorry" when I have already started to swing.

For me it's less the constant noise but the sudden noise that's distracting

I'd prefer silence but if PP's are having a quiet conversation I'll probably tee off regardless, as long as they're watching

However the sudden noises/movements are different. A couple of guys I know (being totally self centred/ignorant) think nothing of shouting across to another group in the middle of your swing, or slamming a buggy door, or starting a trolley in your eyeline etc

Most of the members in comps are very respectful and won't talk as soon as a player goes to the bag. In the roll ups this does change but again I can't think of any that will chatter during a players swing. It might wander into a practice swing but those I play with are all respectful of the etiquette. Personally I am not overly precious and will do my stuff and play my shot. A course at weekends is never totally queit

I'm fine with talking.
Don't fancy any sudden bangs or wallops though.
If they are chatting before I swing then they are welcome to carry on, and have told them to as well. I can even join in as I address.

Once or twice a year the disused military site right next door to our club is used for police training.
We are warned, but not told exactly what time they will start.

The start of the exercise is usually a very loud explosion followed by machine gun fire.
THAT definitely puts you off!

Two RAF jest flying through the valley at low level when playing at Ashbury Manor has a similar effect.

Was on about this today, one of our PP talks to himself like I have never heard. "cmon Melly that's sat up lovely, just stroke it nice and sweet, let the club do the work, that's why ave got me three wood coz me new driver is half asleep today, a bit of draw, down the middle then 7 iron. Cmon Melly focus and then Boom."

It's followed by a " Ballax, what you doin Melly, FOUR RIGHT, Soddin hell Melly what's that all about".

That is Melly he is mint. He talks like no one else when he is addressing the ball. He shot 15 points today and four blobs in a nine holer.

People look for any excuse when they hit a crap shot

Someone talking during your PSR did not cause you to banana slice that drive into the lake

Strength of mind to concentrate while there are distractions

Only a loud sudden bang or noise out of the blue I would consider off putting

I don't it is so much an excuse for hitting a bad un, I think it is more to do with etiquette and manners.

Got a guy like that. Gives himself a lecture on every shot and I swear the golfing tourettes has started before the ball has left the club and he's cursing himself before it finishes. Granted it's normally justified (a ropey 23 handicapper)
