Playing 2 rounds in a day...

About 20 odd years ago a group of us used to go to Scotland every year and play 36 holes for 6 days on the trot. Carrying.
We were knackered (completely) by the end of the week but the fact that we played a new (to us) course every day helped us get through as it kept the interest levels high.
Now?
I can play 36 in a buggy, but 36 walking is a no no.
I think the last time I walked 36 was at Woburn a couple of years ago playing Bobmac in a match.
Completely shot to pieces coming down the last few holes, some said I looked like a cross between Douglas Bader and C3P0 as I walked down the 18th....:mad::mad:

We still do.

Ok, it's actually only 11 rounds nowadays as we tend to venture a bit further afield on the first day.

Most impressive I ever came across was some lads we met in Belgium who were training for a speed golf challenge of 7 rounds in 7 countries in one day.

I'm a little anxious as I'll need to walk 18 on Saturday. I may need medical assistance by the end!

You'll be fine.

Just take 5 litres ar water with you. Some glucose tablets, a hand of bananas, energy drink, box of raisins, some nutri-bars and slow release carbs.

And don't forget the Mars bar for a snack half way round.

thanks for the advice (I may need to substitute one or two items to get the alcohol in the bag)

I had to walk 9 a few weeks ago after they took the buggies off us at the turn due to standing water (tried to outrun them but they caught up as we putted on the 10th) and that was a test of stamina I can tell you

As this weeks course has no buggies  I'll likely get a caddy as temp is forecast to reach 36° (these guys are saviors)

I really cant imagine the state of me if I tried walking 36 in a day (did do 27 once with a 2 hour lunch/recovery after 18) but played shocking on last 9!

I am really struggling to feel sorry for you :D

Done 36 holes in the states felt fine after 18 holes but struggled towards the end of the last round! This had more to do with the huge American sized sandwich and drinks we had at lunch rather than the golf! :)

Think I would struggle in the uk at this time of year due to the softness under foot of my course, real energy zapping !

I did 36 holes three days running in the States a few years back, all in a buggy of course.
By the fourth day I was waving a white flag.

The perils of joining up with a Boys' Long Weekend...Off the second course and straight out to dinner.
What about my shower , hair wash and make up, chaps?

Tend to avoid the women’s locker room but I’m assuming that in amongst the fabric swatches and back issues of house & home there must be a hand dryer you can dry your hair with and a mirror for doing the lippy!

(In case you were wondering I can confirm, men’s locker rooms have no mirrors)

edit: you say shower and hair-wash as if its two separate things, whats that all about!

When I was much younger – early sixties – 3 of us played 56 holes in a day. We were playing at Cotgrave Place (now called the Nottinghamshire) and, being a true Scot, decided to get full value for a day ticket. We played the Open Course in the morning, then lunch, the Masters Course in the afternoon, then afternoon tea, and a final round on the Open Course.

If you twigged that 3 rounds adds up to 54 holes, the reason we played 56 was that the Masters Course had just expanded from 9 to 18 holes, we got lost and ended up playing 2 of the holes twice.

If anybody knows the La Cala courses in Spain (fairly highly, long walk from green to tee) then we walked 36 holes, carrying bags in a day during the spring in previous years. Both the marshalls there and the people at El Chap thought we were absolutely balmy! Much prefer it though to buggies when you can't drive on the fairway.
