Playing 2 rounds in a day...

No issues with playing 36 in a day, as long as the gap in the middle is too long. If I sit down for an hour or so, the 2nd round is a bit of a mission. Fuel + hydrate accordingly, and it shouldn't be an issue. Comfy golf shoes are a must though!

And a shower! Or at the very least, wash your feet and a clean pair of socks.....really makes a difference :)

Last year when I was on holiday in Sherringham in walked to the course from our cottage in Sherringham with my bag/clubs/waterproofs/drinks/chocolate bars/lucky gonk/spare lucky gonk, had a go on the range, then played 36 holes and then walked back again.

Unfortunately I had slightly overestimated my fitness levels and struggled to walk for the next couple of days as I ached like buggery. And looking back on it the couple of pints of strong cider at lunchtime after the first 18 was probably not the best idea. But in my defense I don't sweat much for a fat lad. And my Ecco Biom hybrids were comfortable as slippers, so my feet didn't hurt.

I am due to play at Surrey National on Thursday and the groupon deal is for a days golf. as my friend has dropped out and others cant make it I will go by myself and hope to get 36 holes in.

We have 3 separate 36 hole comps as part of the comp calendar, one in April, one in May and one in September. Generally knackered by the end.

Agree with the shower and clean socks after 18, it might be a mental thing but seems to work for me.

I have an electric trolley for 18 holes, let alone 36........

As a junior I often used to play 54 holes a day, two or three days a week. We got to the club at 8am, played 27 in the morning, had a spot of lunch, and then 27 in the afternoon. I'd never manage it these days! 36 a day once in a while is okay, but to be honest I'll take a buggy rather than walk, especially if the course is hilly.

As for pre-round practice, I rarely go to the range, preferring to chip and putt to get the speed of the greens. In the event I stray from that routine, and hit a basket of balls on the range, I invariably play crap.

wait your tired after 18 holes? who'd have guessed it.

A lot of people on here think that golf isnt exercise so they'll probably tell you that you could play 100holes a day if you want!

Funny you should say that, I'm thinking of playing 100 later this year for charity. I've done a couple of 4 course challenges (4 courses in the same day) before and want to try something different and more difficult this year.

As for 36 holes, if you dont stop for too long between rounds its not too bad. You'll sleep well and have sore legs the follow day but its no great shakes when you're out there.

40mins to an hour for lunch in between is perfect.
Play can get pretty slow in scratch opens when the courses are toughened up - not unusual to be finishing my sandwich half way down the 1st on my afternoon round :(

Played a few 27 hole days in my time, think 36 would be a bit over kill.

Season just gone, played in a 27 hole comp and the final 9 was my best ever 9 hole score, level par! Was really motivated and putted so well down the stretch. Got a nice cut that day.

On our trips to Spain we used to have a couple of days where we would do 2 courses in a day, say two of the La Cala courses or Los Naranjos and La Quinta. Even though it would be hot the buggies took most of the strain. The biggest problem was the late nights and early starts when we were playing 36 holes in a day. At the end of the trip we needed a holiday to recover.

Just wondering what's people thoughts on playing 2 rounds of golf in a day when the sunrise is more convenient from mid March onwards?

It's probably just the depression i'm experiencing not getting out due to this awful weather but I think I might start doing this when I can- tee off for a hit myself at 6am for practice - back by 8.30/9am ready to tee off for the Medal?

Will this just knacker me out? I'm reasonably fit but even now sometimes i'm a bit fatigued by the 18th hole. I've just bought a new trolley to help so i'm not carrying though.

On the other hand the more I hit the better I seem to get; sometimes i'm a bit rusty the 1st few holes then start getting my act together.... Maybe even just play 9 holes to begin with?

Thoughts/experiences?

Am I just going stir crazy lol?!?!?

That sentence doesn't add up, if you're fatigued after 18 holes then you aren't reasonably fit.

Personally I love 36 hole days and often enter 36 hole opens.

Lol Hawkeye I suppose you are correct.... For past 6 months I've not done a lot of fitness due to the lull of getting married then honeymoon and enjoying my food too much.

Prior to that done a lot of fitness and was usually quite a fit guy. Still luckily not overweight but need to get my arse in gear- know when I start back 5's in feb should be ok.

We used to do it in Ireland every year when we played the Causeway Coast comp, wed play the comp round in the morning and then play a practise round on the course we next played at tee time, we counted wed played 12 times in 7 days. we were carrying our clubs and i lost 3/4 of a stone in weight, totally nuts.

Andy every year we did it for about 5 years was totally nuts ,going to Kellys in Portrush on a wednesday was always carnage as we d always play Portstewart the next day. Couldn't play that amount now on holiday 1 game a day is plenty.
