Just wondering what's people thoughts on playing 2 rounds of golf in a day when the sunrise is more convenient from mid March onwards?

It's probably just the depression i'm experiencing not getting out due to this awful weather but I think I might start doing this when I can- tee off for a hit myself at 6am for practice - back by 8.30/9am ready to tee off for the Medal?

Will this just knacker me out? I'm reasonably fit but even now sometimes i'm a bit fatigued by the 18th hole. I've just bought a new trolley to help so i'm not carrying though.

On the other hand the more I hit the better I seem to get; sometimes i'm a bit rusty the 1st few holes then start getting my act together.... Maybe even just play 9 holes to begin with?

Thoughts/experiences?

Am I just going stir crazy lol?!?!?

You're not allowed to practice on the course prior to playing a medal.

OK in theory if you're playing a different course but I think overdoing it before a comp round is not a good idea.

wait your tired after 18 holes? who'd have guessed it.

A lot of people on here think that golf isnt exercise so they'll probably tell you that you could play 100holes a day if you want!

not two rounds, but the best golf i have played is when i have gone to the range first and hit at least 60 balls.

i have played in 36 hole comps done on the same day, most top AM comps are run like this,27 holes is the norm for soc. days but played 36 at CONWYN GC now that was a slog.

If your a member at a 27/36 hole golf course then no probs at all getting 9/18 in before a medal as long as you don't go on the course your playing the medal on.

I do around 20-25 36 hole comps a year and I am certainly not fit. Do tend to score better in the 2nd round usually.

I'm a relatively fit 48 year old and I have to say I'm fairly puggled if I play 36 holes in a day.

When I was in my teens I often did (54 holes a couple of times) but I feel a wee afternoon nap coming on after 18 nowadays.

Pre-round nowadays I try to hit 10 shots in the practice net if I can. I think that suffices as a warm up for the first tee. After all it's the equivalent of your first 5 holes. 60 balls? Not for me. That's a lot more full shots than you hit in a full round itself.

LOL so generally thought of as a bad idea....

Thanks FD didn't realise that would have probably broken the rules had I not asked.

I NEEED GOLF AND I NEED GOLF SOON!!!!

As an afterthought what's the earliest anyone has played a round of golf? I see the sunrises at 3.30am in June :D

I play in at least Three 36 hole opens a year and this year im not bothering again, whole day gone and usually plum tuckered after the first 18.

Id do it for the odd social game, i get a game at Muirfield now and again at play 2 round there with a member, but the afternoon is foursomes so not too bad

I generally go to the gym @ 6am before work, and it had never even occured to me that in the summer i could go and practice before work!

definitely taking advantage of it this year.

I play quite a few 36 hole opens, I don't find it too much of a problem and I'm mid 50's.

Get off yer backsides you bunch of wimps!

It was a regular occurance for us to play 36 holes at Carnoustie or Turnberry in the summer months. One round on Burnside then one on the Championship at Carnoustie, and one on the Ailsa then one on the Kintyre at Turnberry. The only thing stopping us now is the cost!

Done 36 holes in the states felt fine after 18 holes but struggled towards the end of the last round! This had more to do with the huge American sized sandwich and drinks we had at lunch rather than the golf! :)

Think I would struggle in the uk at this time of year due to the softness under foot of my course, real energy zapping !

As a student in St Andrews we often went straight from a house party to the golf course at 3am and still half cut. Had normally sobered up by the time we finished and would then go straight out again for another 18.

One day we played the New and Jubilee courses before lunch, the Old Course in the afternoon and then the Eden Course
that evening. And that was all 4 of us carrying our bags for all the rounds.
