Playability test - with a difference

the older wimmin are not that slow as they have a knack of being unable to hit the ball further than 100 yards and no higher than their head.they never lose it and are not bothered by windy conditions. i observed a wee woman last week around 110 yards out. i was thinking in my head. go on, do me proud , pull out that wedge and surprise me. she proceeded to put the ball on a tee, take out a wood and hit a shot that didnt go higher than her head. she killed the follow through so well. i dont think i could keep a shot that low if you gave me a bucket of balls.

never mind watching swing analysis of rory mc. id like to unlock the secrets of ladies day golf!

With regards to being a paid post for a Marshall probably as I cant see many putting their name forward for that as it is bound to involve varying levels of hassle and abuse, I certainly wouldn't do it for nowt thats for sure.

With regards to the 2nd point about which group is the slowest at my club most of the hold ups have been down to the low handicapper groups taking an age on every shot and putt so only speaking as I find, it might be different at other courses but I cannot comment on that.

I can think of plenty of committee and ex-captain types who would get a huge buzz out of ordering people about on the course!

A couple of our par 3s are a wedge or maybe 9i for me, I've ceased to cringe when someone I'm playing pulls out her driver. Turns out that's the club for them - it's where the ball goes, not how it gets there.

Maybe it would just alienate members though and maybe p##s them off that much that they went elsewhere. If you are going to have a Marshall it has to be someone with no connection to the club other than them working there.

ive never had to play with anyone that pulls out the driver from 100 yards or so. i honestly dont see why some of these women dont just play our 9 hole par 3 course. there is holes there of 170 yards or more. they dont need to play full size golf courses. i think half of them dont even care what they score and just enjoy the craic. i often play with the lowest handicap woman at our course. she plays off 12 and is a fine golfer!

I can imagine.
But........if it means no more 5 hour rounds who would complain?
You get in a buggy at the 18th and work your way back through the course. How long would that take?

Don't think there's anything wrong with that so don't see any reason why they shouldn't play the course. However in my experience,to varying degrees, EVERYONE cares about their score.

ive yet to see any of the women throw clubs away in disgust over a putt that lips out or a duffed chip. i know this behaviour is not acceptable but it does show that the person really cares about what they score.

I play off 27 and Regulary catch ppl up. I'm quite a quick player prob the reason my hc is so High. And I've met low hc with poor etiquette especially towards letting a quick group of hackers through...Why do high cappers always get persecuted

As I said, everyone cares but to varying degrees. My guess is that I play golf with more women than you... :smirk:

I agree 100% mate. High handicap golfers are not the ones at fault. All golfers can do things to speed up play and Its not really the pace of play thats the sole problem.

# Its people not ready to play.
# People chatting away.
# People sauntering along like they have all the time in the world between shots.
# Poor etiquette in relation to letting faster groups through.
# Poor choices, eg not hitting a provisional when your 40 yards in the cabbage.
# Leaving bags at the wrong side of the green.
# etc etc.

Lucky you. I have to put up with people like Andy, Valentino and Farneyman. Fancy a game? :fore:

Employ a few snipers. Have them scattered around the course up trees. Anyone going in the rough is shot. That should speed things up. It does surprise me, that a game that is supposed to be fun. Can get so many people uptight one way or another.

Slow play is deffo not a handicap thing or an old person thing or a womans thing just some people are simply slow and some people simply have no manners.

As I said generally good etiquette solves most problems, i was just wondering peoples thoughts. I know high handicap does not equall a slow player, and I have no problem with high handicappers. I was one myself for over 10 years.

One other thought, should there be a lower limit for 4 balls made up of class 1 golfers, then?

Good debate this some interesting idea's. Cant say as having 1 Cat 1 Golfer in a 4 ball will make that much of a difference to be honest what if the Cat1 is a slow player of which many of them are bad burnt as scolded

As far as the volunteer idea goes, it would have to be someone who wouldn't alienate people by being pushy with no people skills. You could almost say the people least qualified to do it would be the only ones who wanted to.

As for doing it for free, I'd bet you'd get a few volunteers from the retired members if their yearly subs were waived and they got a bit of brekky & lunch on the house. Wouldn't cost the club too much then either.
