Platini is a complete knob. Why would you force a player out of retirement?

I agree,but it should be his choice.

He has had injuries and wants to prolong his club playing career as they pay his wages.
Nobody can deny he has been a valiant servant for his country, but as he has announced his international retirement, I think that that should be respected.

What would happen if Gerrard or Lampard got the call from Roy?

Where i agree with what you say above , if a player doesnt want to play then he is gone forget him.

IMO its disrespectful to those that want to play to try force someone who doesnt want to play to play ..

Slight variant .. Mark Nobel for Ireland , its possible but only if Roy doesnt pick him ,, if i was MoN id take that as a no and move on without him

If a player doesn't want to play, I agree with platini, ban him. I'd love to play for England. I'm never going to be selected, but I don't get some one who could be saying no. It's rubbish.

I think it's not a Ribery thing, it's a much bigger issue, to prevent big clubs saying to their players " we'll increase your wages to 400k a week if you don't play for your country. I think he is taking a contemporary case of someone who is still a reasonable guaranteed start and marking a line in the sand against the big clubs. I doubt it's an anti-Ribery attack per se.

Up to the player as to when they retire from internationals imo.

Surely it has to be up to a player though? Would you pick a player for a vital match who really didn't want to be there. I think the player knows their body and if the club matches are taking a toil why would you then inflict qualifiers, friendlies and tournaments on it
