Haven't heard much about the Ping PYB challenge lately, isn't the 'exam round' due very soon, just wondered how it's going as it's an extremely interesting project?

I must say I had rather hopped for some more regular updates and excitement.

Funny thing as I was wondering the same on my drive to work this morning. It does seem to have gone very quiet and wondered if it has been all they hoped for in terms of help/lessons/progress. I think there are some blogs on here but not much and not updated as often as would seem appropriate for such a massive competition.

I have to say although the challenge was pretty interesting the break 70 for Toad, who im sure is a 9/10 handicapper is some ask especially with a family and job where practice time is tough.

Hope all is going well with them all.

I'll give you a blow by blow account on Friday as I'll witness the star player in action for 18 holes at the wonderful Blairgowrie!

Promise it'll be 100% accurate!

hint hint, it should have been me ; )

I'm beginning to dislike you with all this midweek golf.

Flip side of the coin is that I get to play very few weekend medals having one off a month I need to balance that in with the witch and weans!

no pressure then. John will perform admirably I'm sure- thumbs up smiley

There are a few updates here and there on Twitter as well as the blogs. I think Rob who was break 90 succeeded quite early on and if I'm not mistaken has beaten 85 in a comp as well. Paul (break 100) is edging closer but is yet to seal the deal, Peter (break 80) has suffered with the rain and I'm not sure if he is any closer.

I'd have given my right arm to be selected last time round but don't think I'd enter if they ran it again next year. Maybe you'll get the nod in 2013 Amanda :-)

You never know although it could be to beat 70 by then :-)

I am almost back to the break 100 category :(

I would rather see a post every couple of months with proper solid gains than a one off round where they achieve the goal.

Then it's just a shame that 90% of the forumers (or more) never heard a sausage about it. I think that the mileage that could have been achieved for such a fantastic opportunity has been vastly underplayed.

James, I understand your frustration about lack of information about the PYB challenge progress.
I have found it difficult to continue writing interesting or insightful things about the process as most of it has been playing golf or visiting the range for me.
Since the challenge started in March I have had 3 lessons with my coach, a day with Westwood and Tom Lewis all of which have been written about on the micro site.

I know from personal experience that there is only so many times you can write about hitting balls without boring the pants off everyone.
As for the challenge itself it has been hard work, grip, posture and swing path changes take time to bed in, how often people wish to hear that i hit another hundred balls working on swing path I'm not sure. As was said earlier re having enough time in the last month I have been on holiday for 2 and a half weeks, followed by a week on call at work then factor in family time and there is not a lot left for golf unfortunately.

I have recorded some of my best rounds score wise this yar but also some of my worst during the changes to my swing, the big question is can I break 70? I won't deny it's a tall order off 9 but I have had rounds where its been possible, -1 through 11 for example only to make an error as all amature golfers do and throw it all away.

The final challenge is on the 1st of October at Gainsbourgh and I like to think that I have a chance otherwise I'd be as well to stay at home and save the petrol money(tight Scotsman).

I heard from my coach yesterday and he was mentioning some extensive work during September to prepare for the challenge so will see how it goes, I'm not going to beat myself up if I fail to do it as the challenge has tested me and my golf in so many ways, early on in the challenge I was close to quitting golf as I could not see what benifits the swing changes brought and played the worst golf ever. Thankfully now I can see improvement in my game and that's what's important to me, there are things I would have done different if I had the time over as I'm sure both Ping and GM would have but it's been a steep learning curve for all concerned.
Cheers
Toad.

In that case they don't read the magazine because I'm sure that's where it was mentioned!! Having written a blog myself I can certainly empathise with Toad's comments, especially if you feel you are making no progress.

Toad. What you just wrote is exactly the kind of piece that keeps my interest in the challange - the struggle, the emotion - the journey...that would make a great blog update.
