Had a good old hit with a demo Ping I25 tonight. Very interesting to compare it against my TM Tour Preferred and the demo I20 I was hitting as well. I looked a fraction longer than the I20 but marginally so. The top line between the two was almost identical.

Hitting wise I thought the I20 had a slightly more penetrating and lower flight compared to the I25 which was a more higher, rainbow like arc. The I25 and the TM Tour Preferred were similar. I was impressed with how easy to hit it was, as is the I20 and first impressions were positive.

I'd love to get on a monitor and hit my TM's, and Ping G25's and compare the two I models against them. From an aesthetic point of view the I family is much better looking than my G model especially on the shorter irons. I am due to have a lesson on Wednesday and may see if I can get the pro to hook the monitor up and have a play around.

New I25's on I20's in the bag within 4 weeks then :D

good choice as well

Think you should give in and get the i20's Homer! You know you want to!

Spec-wise, unless I'm mistaken, there's virtually no difference between i20 and i25 - just 1° of bounce difference on a short iron.
So all the difference is in the head weighting.
Still think there's a touch too much offset on the mid and long irons for my liking though I might have a bash with them one day...

I actually thought there was less offset with the I25. Looked lovely behind the ball. I need to get n a monitor and see numbers first. Tempted to go to Ping HQ and tag on a round at Woodhull if I decide to go with them

Why do you need to see numbers on a monitor ?

what about using your visual eye and the feel of the club as you use it ?

You bought your current clubs based on numbers and you dont like them.

Not fancy a nice set of Taylormade MB's Homer ;-)

Nice Nippon shafts to get it out there.

Much cheapness, much goodness.

As you know I had a fitting 2 weeks ago and there was 1 yard difference between the i20 and i25. They were almost identical in performance according to the numbers.

It will probably come down to your personal preference.

You'll not get that much from your lesson if your mucking about with irons and a launch monitor, do those things separately.
I think I would just get some mp54s or Bridgestone pockets this months mag has shown there are very few pretty players irons :(

I have promised to keep my i15's in the bag for at least another season, haven't seen the i25's but demoed the i20 last year and thought they were a fantastic iron, with a good 10% more feel and forgiveness than the i15's.

Go for it Homer you know it makes sense!

Homer,

Remember these threads?!! Re-read and Reflect! Post 8 of the first one applies still/again!

Now please explain how you can preach 'Go See a Pro' and 'Spend your money on Lessons' when you supposedly find a 'best fit' and half a season later want to change!

You seem to need the treatment (it's an illness!) Big Sami the Fitter (a muchly tattoo-ed 6'3", 20 stone Nigerian skinhead - think Juan Del Potro with attitude! - who you just said 'Yes Sami' to) applied to a (spoilt rotten but powerfully athletic - think Rugby Flankerl) 14 year old - with the strongest Max-Out (a fitting tool) figures - who was driving his mother insane - he had over £5K worth of gear that he'd bought (rich Uncle) just to try out! He demanded that they both agree to bring every club he'd bought, he'd quarantine them and provide 1 set that he should commit to for 6 months - and if they didn't work for him, would sort them or him out FoC! And he'd stay away from Golf stores for that time too!

Apparently worked brilliantly!

As my golf mate says, a good player can hit any club!

I couldn't agree more, I watched someone knock it around my course 4 or 5 over off the blocks in very very challenging conditions - it was the first time he had played the course

Using

Wait for it

It's worth it....

A set of Dunlop 65i irons that he had purchased from sports direct for £3.00 a club, a Dunlop 65i hybrid and 3w which were a fiver each, matching putter at a fiver and a very old very used cally driver which a pal had given him with the bag. So there a set of irons at £24, with the rest of the bag costing £15. The guys swing and technique were precise, could hit every shot shape you could want on request, he's best was a low stinging 1/2 8i into a 2/3 head wind to about 12 inches.

Should also add these were all sloppy whippet fit shafts that I don't think would class them selves as senior flex at best!

Hitting the ball nicely at the moment and have a series of lessons booked from now until the end of March. Seems the ideal time to stop the work on short game and tidying the long swing up and just have a relaxed session hitting the 20's and 25's. As I've reiterated SO many times the issue with the G25 isn't one of not being able to hit them but one of aesthetics especially on the mid and short irons. I just don't have confidence with the short shots looking down on the chunky clubs. I've said (and been ignored) that the idea of a more forgiving set while my swing changes bedded in was sound BUT had I waited I could have gone for a set more akin to the TM Tour Preffered's I was using.

Nothing wrong with the fitting process of indeed the G25 as a club but having come through the other side of the swing changes I have lost confidence in them. Nothing wrong trying them "by eye" but how are you suppose to work out distances and dispersion.

Offset on the I25 is identical to the I20.

Not hit the i25's yet, but have hit the i20's and absolutely loved them. Best (non-Mizuno) iron I've hit for a long while.

The don't look vastly different to the i20, so as Ian says, the difference may be in weighting and the odd ° here and there in loft and bounce.
