Ping G440 K Driver

This thread just goes to prove how weird (some) golfers are when it comes to choosing their equipment :ROFLMAO: Never mind if it has better performance or is better value for money, if it sounds funny or looks funny then it won't get a look in. Even Burnsey can't make up his mind if the TM driver just pipped the Ping or beat it hands down when it comes to making his 'excuses' ;)

I’ve always known I’m weird! But if I don’t like the look of a club behind the ball, I have absolutely zero interest in hitting it regardless of VFM or performance. I’m spending a lot of money on something I need to like and want to hit otherwise it won’t be a positive swing from the start.

I couldn’t caress about the sound as long as it looks good and works well. One thing for definite as well I also wouldn’t touch a carbon faced driver, seen to many come away from the crowns.

So like I said I’m weird and I know that narrows my options 🤣

Strange isn’t it. I had a TM M2 driver for years, Nike before that, loved both, they had the glossy heads. Been playing ping drivers for the last few years (410, 425 & 430), loved them all. Don’t even notice the turbulators in a bad way, in fact I use them to line up, and much prefer the matt finish. Couldn’t go back to glossy now!

If I could have it my way though, I’d have the thud sound of the TM m2. I’m used to the ‘ping’ noise the pings make but prefer the thud.

I agree I love the matt finish and dont notice the turbulators either.
But I do like the carbon look of the new taylormades.
I think I player every model of taylormade in 1 form or another from the xro3 all the way to the M4 but never owned one since for some unknown reason. Had a few pings since.

Not sure who told you that not many pros play Ping drivers, but they're wrong, Ping has a big presence on tour every year.

Here's an article from GM last summer.

No one told me, I just don't see many.

Good for those who do.

Looks are important, but I've either mistyped or you've misread. No excuses here - I chose the best overall performer, but my money, my choice.

Suppose I was being nice to the fella who gets offended with anyone who doesn't like Ping. Damn ugly things.

It is a steady driver, with loads of forgiveness, especially on off centre strikes, but TM beat it convincingly overall.

When I tested all the drivers last year Ping was 3rd best for me, Cobra 2nd and TM Qi35 first.
Every bit as forgiving as Ping, not that I particularly need that - apart from the odd heel strike.

“I would have gone for the Ping, despite the bits I don't love about them, as it worked really, really well. The TM just pipped it.”

Sorry bit confused, did the TM ‘just pip’ the Ping or “beat it convincingly overall”?

It's like being at school.

Overall, TM beat Ping on distance. Ping was tighter dispersion, but both fairway. More dead centre strikes with the TM, but off centre the Ping was unaffected..

Pretty close, but the looks and sound convinced me to buy the TM, so it did beat the Ping convincingly overall.

Detention, or a sticker?

I’ve had 2 Ping drivers with the turbulators, so they don’t bother me.
Just surprising for me that they are slow to change things. Took them a long time to bring carbon into the heads too.
I guess this is just the way they do things at Ping.
Sorry, but again, what makes you think they need to change them? They obviously put them on there because they believe there is benefit to having them.

They may/must have found some marginal benefit. A major selling point when they first appeared on the G30.

I wonder why they took them off their fairways and hybrids?

Edit…
They were brought in as the claim was that they increased club head speed. I’ve never thought that and I don’t think I have seen any reviews that they did improve speed.

I'd imagine the smaller head size means the benefit was minimal. As much as anything, it's a way to make their drivers recognisable even from the top-down address position I guess.

That'd be me too
It went well
Sound and feel terrible
Couldn't tell if it was middle or high toe
Awful sounding driver, lasted 2 months with me
Could hear them 2 fairways away😂
My mate still uses a G425 driver and I don't really notice the sound being any worse or different to other drivers. I have a G425 3 wood, and I love the sound that makes. Maybe I'm deaf.

You can tell if someone's using a G425 driver from 3 fields away......absolutely honking sound..
A good driver ....if you can live with the noise...Fragger has one but then he has no shame and is as deaf as a post.....the rest of us though.....😱

Ping did indeed take the turbs off the 425 fairways and hybrids because they made little difference to performance.

It’s not just golf it’s in every day life. I am not even remotely a petrol head but I see some cars on the road and I could never own one because I don’t like the look of it. To 99.9% of women I would think I’m pig ugly and they wouldn’t go near me, but my wife loves me😂

She must see you as a better performer or better value for money :ROFLMAO:
