Pin Placement Sheets

When playing at Trump the Strokesavers have a map of the green with the letters A to G on it, at the start of the round the Starter tells you to play to position "B" for the day.

Worked well, but i guess not too easy for regular clubs as not everyone has a strokesaver.

We have flag on flag - high up for hole to rear, low down for hole at front.

Has anyone got the little map boards near, or by, each tee - with a peg in the sector of the green where the hole is. I know I've seen them a time or two but can't remember where.

My courses has the ball on flag. Works well when you are level on above the green but sometimes can't be seen if below the green (which many of our holes are. Also at risk of moving if someone is a bit heavy handed with the flag.

Played Farnham estate in Cavan. They used four coloured flags. front R/L and Back R/L. I like that method as it was quick to reference.

We have coloured flags, red for front, yellow for middle and white back.
Works quite well and saves cost of printed sheets everyday.

This is us too, although we also had pin sheets for the club champs this year for some unknown reason! The colour tells you how deep and you ought to be able to tell left, middle, or right by looking at it.

We used to have a small flag on the flag, top, middle and bottom to indicate pin position. Was sometimes hard to tell from distance where the little flag was.

I've played courses where they tell you pin position A or B etc, but that means you keep having to check your card for green layout (if they do print it on the card) or buy a stroke saver. Ok, not a major overhead when playing, but it's extra.

Last year we moved to coloured flags at our track. Much better system IMHO. Simple and quick.

Best and easiest way for everyone without emailing, printing sheets, markers on flags slipping down, blind second shots etc etc is
18 holes on the card split into 5 sections- 4 corners and the middle. Green keeper decides on a number and the pin is at that number all the way round, starter just indicates position 2 or whatever or writes the number on each card.

What happens when.

Mr Nasty decides to muddle up all the wee flags.
The greenkeerer makes an error on one of the printout holes that prevents you from winning the medal. Will you then sue the club.

I know I'm getting older but it seems that much of the joy and spirit is being eroded from our SPORT.
Maybees I have woken up grumpy and as if by magic, all of the worlds club golfers have suddenly become tournament pros.

My home course only has pin sheets for silver medals and a few other board comps. They are marked as " front 5 on 6 from left" etc.

The other club i'm a member at have a pin sheet with the green divided into 9 and marked with a dot.

Our club recently had a very nice pin position sheet stapled to the card for the club championships. They made the effort which was really nice. Totally useless to 99% of players though because what was the use of 36 on 17 from the right if you do not know how far from the green you are. We have 150 yrd markers but no stroke savers available so front middle & back would have been less trouble and more use. I appreciated the effort though.

Our pins have a small, 2nd flag under the main one. If it's at the top, the pin is at the back. In the middle, the pin is, well, I think you know where this is going...

At my level it's all the information I need. Exact pin placements wouldn't mean anything to me as I'm not likely to get anywhere near.

We use the red, white and yellow flag system - Even though people use a bushnell/satnav etc its still useful to know whether its front middle or back so you know where the miss is!

That'd get my vote - really like courses that operate this system.

Played one recently though where it was yellow front, red middle and white back. Not exactly intuitive and confused me no end. Fortunately I was playing with a member who kept setting me right!

2 courses i play often, one has the yellow, red, blue flags. the other course has a small flag under the main flag. at the top, back of green, middle = middle, bottom of flag (about the middle of the flag post) = front.

both work well.

We have this system but the green staff never seam to set the small flags in the right position. I'd go for the red, yellow, white option myself, but I'm sure our green staff could mess that up as well.
