Peed off

My regular playing partner was drawn in the medal the other week and his two FC's were both no shows.

He had to wait over an hour for a slot, I really cannot understand why the club did not split a three ball and make two balls with him.

He was so annoyed I can only sympathize with you Chillie, I know at our club the no shows get a two comp ban

Seems to be more and more of a problem in general throughout daily life

People seem to agree to stuff then "can't be bothered" right beforehand

Shame really, feel for you

Just spoken to the missus and she says that at our place if someone doesn't turn up then they just rearrange - they're not bothered about a three ball in the middle

Yep that happened to me last Saturday, FC called in an hour before tee off with some excuse. Our comps are played in two-balls so I just made up a three ball with the nearest two-ball.

Two-ball comps can be fast but I'd prefer if we ran our comps as three-balls - 18 holes with a unsociable twonk is a big chunk of a valuable weekend:(.

New shineys were great Amanda:)

How was your fitting?

Good news and hopefully a match made in heaven

I didn't buy! My swing was awol but the Big Bertha fairways proved versus mine that they're way more forgiving. Hate the cord grips though and hit so many balls my hand is a bit shredded! Off to Beds & County GC on Wed to try the other models I want to compare (Ping, TM, Adams, Cleveland and Mizuno...oh Titleist too)!! Have to say the guy doing the demo was good but the guys in the shop VERY condescending so not likely to buy there...

Not good news about the shop Amanda. I hate that. Enjoy trying the others on Weds.

Sounds like I had a lucky escape today from a phone call I had. I won't be putting my name down with her again.

Which shop is that ( where the guy is condescending ? )

Our club are establishing a rule similar to man in blacks,

If you pull out up to the day prior with notice then fine, but same day drop outs or no shows get an official warning, second time offenders will get a 3 comp ban.

We had a no show in our group last week, slight bit of drizzle and a call 15 mins before tee off using the excuse of a sore throat..... What a jessy!

Our club has had issues with no shows, especially in comps when the weather is bad. The club has been trying to impose bans for frequent offenders but this policy seems to have stopped now. The women's section seems to be a law unto themselves and despite having draws for their comps, they seem to all arrive en-masse on the first tee and pick partners at times

Direct Golf at Hemingford. Two guys actually, both came across very condescending and know-it-all and to be frank they didn't!

Hope you have a better experience with Steve at Beds and County

Most people have mobile phones nowadays. Only applies to no shows without notice, not people who withdraw before the event.

Agreed, but not an assumption to be made when trying to encourage folk to play comps. It was a while ago, but the club I ran comps at used to send out letters suggesting a £10 fine was due if no reasonable explanation. Not a bad balance - some paid, some had reasonable excuses and some ignored. But the message normally got through without getting backs up.

The 'withdraw the day before' guys caused as much of a problem as the 'on the day' ones. Fair weather competitors!
