PC turns his back on RC who will be next.

Some are, some aren't. This helps out guys who are yo-yoing in and out of the top 50. For example, look at the Poulter situation this year.

Certainly going to be interesting for guys like Castano and others trying the PGA

Not sure who the others are over in the US that want to keep a ET card ?

Gmac has fallen out of the top 50. Thinking also about guys like Coulsaerts who tried it. Russell Knox has joined the ET to try and make the Ryder Cup team - he's not cracked the top 50 (yet) so it makes it more viable for him. Bound to be others.

Russell Knox is now in the Top 30

GMAC I believe plays in 6 every year

If GMAC reduced his then would fall into the gap

There was an interesting discussion by Rob Lee and Coltart and they couldnt think of anyone who it helps - they also asked if it was a bit of a knee jerk reaction to the Poulter situation.

Didn't realise that about Knox, great - hope he makes the RC.

Doesn't really matter if it helps anyone right now, although Gmac and Poulter are the obvious ones who will benefit right away. It tweaks things, makes it easier for those guys outside the top 50 without actually reducing the commitment from the very top players.

A good move, and no down side.

Yeah I think Knox was creeping towards the top 50 with some good finishes and then the WGC shot him into the Top 30

Certainly no downside to the changes - what difference it will make I guess we will find out

Call me naive but I don't understand why you have to be a member of either tour to represent 'their' team. It's USA v Europe, not PGA Tour v European Tour.

If you are the correct nationality, you are eligible for selection. That's my take on it.

The football World Cup would look a lot different if you had to play in your home country's league to be picked.

It is the PGA Tour v the European Tour. The US team is administered by the PGA of America, the European team is a joint venture between the European Tour, the PGA of GB&I and the PGA of Europe.

Unlike footballers golfers can play on as many tours as they like at the same time.

i like Casey.
i think it will be a shame and a weaker team if he isnt in the side ,but i dont make the rules and its up to Casey if he wants to not play.

Sounds like he can't be bothered when the ET has done what it can to accommodate those plying their trade predominantly in the US to follow the $ and still qualify. If he can't be asked to make an effort then he doesn't deserve a place. Simple and I'd hope it would be taken into account for the wild card picks

Unfair to judge a sportsman from how they're portrayed on the TV, but do agree some can annoy you for all sorts of reason, personally I would like us to take the strongest team possible, look at the rubbish we put up with when Tiger is or isn't playing and the difference he could or could not make.
Best 12 for me regardless of personality and what tour they play on.

But there again we always form opinions on many sportsmen (look at the football thread!) but he is one that seems to irk when there doesn't appear to be a need. Of course if GM want to arrange a meeting I'm happy to apologise in person, buy him a drink and spend some time with him. I do however think we need to make sure we have a team adhering to the qualifying criteria and if Casey won't play the necessary qualifiers then he can't be picked. I still think we're have a strong side and not entirely sure he'll be pivotal if he's there

I stated I agree with the fact that different sportsmen annoy for all sorts of reasons. Didn't say Casey should or shouldn't go, just in my opinion we should have the best 12, as for qualifying criteria, didn't exactly work for England Rugby team in the World Cup.

No, that's fair comment. Will be interesting to see how Casey plays early in 2016 and whether he recognises he could make the side and will then do something about playing sufficient qualifiers. Wonder if the captain or Vice will have a word in private

The criteria for selection has worked very well for Europe - Casey has a choice.

For Europe its never about the 12 individual best players - its always been about the team they form together regardless of world rankings or where they play.

I dont ever see the need to change something that works to suit someone who through his toys out a while back

Not disagreeing or sticking up for Casey, not neccesarily correct when you say for Europe it's never about the 12 individual best players, the fact the Captain only gets to choose his picks, he has no choice on the rest!
It's then the ability of the Captain to mould a team and not all get it right.
Is it possible that we could have
a European player at the top of the world rankings and not qualify for the Ryder Cup in future years.
As you say everybody knows the eligibility criteria at the beginning so can have no complaints if they don't make the 12.
