Now that Paul Casey has turned his back on the euro tour and the Ryder cup, who will be next,as most are based in the U.S and only play the minimum ( got reduced again ) comps anyway to gain points needed on the euro tour i think a few more will jump ship, Westy,Sergio even GMac ,has the lack of quality prestige tournaments drove them away.

i think its the amount of travelling involved in europe.
Casey has still got the hump with monty not picking him for 2010 ,even Rose was left out of that one ,and ok we won ,but only just.
the PGA tour is much easier on the players to be able to see a bit of family life.oh and the money.
cant blame the players as they have a living to earn .

The European tour is 2nd rate to the PGA Tour so I can understand why people would rather play over there. If that means that they then can't qualify for the Ryder Cup then perhaps the selection process should be looked at.

Why do they need to change the selection process when they are looking to win four in a row - only lost the RC once in the 7 - selection process seems to work very well

Has Casey turned his back on the Ryder Cup or are the rules past their sell buy date? If you earn your living playing golf do you really want to spend a 3rd of the year playing somewhere with a poorer return. If the European Tour is a far poorer relative in the current climate, where would you play, especially if you were getting close to your twilight years on the circuit?

Disappointing but understandable.

Let's face it, he'd only need to play the Desert Swing, the PGA and the Scottish ( before The Open) to qualify.
But then that means an extra month or more away from home and if that's not a good enough return for his time then its his choice.
I'm not convinced, even though he's currently the 7th highest ranked Euro, that he'd qualify as of right. His performances in the Majors and WGCs, whilst not shabby, haven't been particularly stellar recently and he'd need good finishes in them to get enough points.

Valid points my friend and given that the desert swing is early in the year and won't exactly be cold or he'll not be looked after 5* with the trimmings so hardly a huge strain surely. PGA as the flagship should be on every European players radar (personally speaking) and with events like the Scottish growing, the Irish and the great atmosphere, it really isn't that hard. How much do players want the RC?

He has to play 5 events - thats all just the 5 events - PGA , Scottish and Irish events all have high ranking and money plus the Desert events.

But then Casey has been an American at heart for years - only came back to ET because he lost his PGA Tour card - then disappeared back over at the first chance.

Think Casey doesn't care about the RC after being left out. That won't change and we'll just pick the next available player if he's in a qualifying spot and doesn't play enough events (blimey it's only five - get a grip Casey). He'll be the one with a lifetime of regrets if he had a chance to make the team by right and didn't, especially if Europe pull off another win

I thought it was way more than 5. Obviously not. As for Casey the man. I like him most of the time, and its been great seeing him recover from injury and start to find some form again. However, he does let rip occasionally when caught off guard. I think his worse one was saying how much he hated playing in pro-am's with guys that are clueless. They just get in the way of him earning a living. Sorry, but without club golfers the sport would be non-existent... after all, its club golfers that buy all the gear that allow various companies to pay millions in sponsorship.

But hey, its his life and livelihood.

It used to be 13 events but they included the WGC and Majors but now it's 5 but doesn't include the Majors etc - so actually no real change at all

As a player I think he has no weaknesses physically - and you can't blame him for wanting to add to his already multi millions

He is still bitter that he wasn't picked for 2010 but others haven't been picked and used it as a positive to make sure they made the next team.

The Europeans really care about the RC - it's prob in amongst the top 5 sporting events now and if someone doesn't want to be a part of it then it's his loss and he will miss out and everything the RC brings

I watched him rip in to the marshalls at Wentworth for no reason - total knob and no loss imo to the Ryder Cup

TBH when I read the story on BBC website my reaction was "so what". Team Europe have done pretty well recently without him and I'd put the likes of Sullivan, Willett, Lowry, Fitzpatrick ahead of him anyway. Pretty obvious that McIlroy, Rose, Stenson, Garcia, Kaymer (and hopefully Dubuison) will form the core and then its a real fight as to who will grab the remaining places. If Westwood has a good season on his return to Europe (and his personal life isn't a distraction) then he'll also be in.

All in all looking quite positive for Europe.

When you line it up like that, it looks good. Of course it needs them to all be hitting form at the right time. What about wild cards?

No idea but hope they aren't chosen out of sentimentality (i.e. Westwood, Poulter, McDowell if they don't make it) rather than form.

No real change in terms of the top guys who get into the majors and WGCs but a significant change for the next group. A good move, I think, keeps some sort of commitment to the ET but doesn't disadvantage the guys who are just outside the top 50.

But the guys who aren't playing in the majors etc are already playing more than enough of the ET events already - players like Donald etc play a lot more than 5

Some are, some aren't. This helps out guys who are yo-yoing in and out of the top 50. For example, look at the Poulter situation this year.
