OWGR

It’s interesting looking at some of the names there and the longevity of some players

No idea how Webb Simpson or Dufner won majors
Same way Ben Curtis, Tod Hamilton, Paul Lawrie etc won a major. They had a good week and shot lower scores than the rest of the field !

At least Duffner and Simpson made it to worlds top 10 so would suggest they had a good patch in their careers for at least a 2 year period as well as winning majors.

Get your point but don’t think Ben Curtis deserves to be put in that category of one hit wonders.
He won a few pga tour events, a few major top 10s and made a Ryder cup team.

That’s kind of my point! Which you have proven for me. Webb Simpson and Duffner also won tour events, top 10 OGWR and played in Ryder cups.

My response was to the post of how did they win majors and it’s no different to Curtis or other one time winners. They won because they had the lowest scores than of the week.

There was a period when the majors had a lot of one time winners in the early 2000s with the likes of Shaun Micheel, Rich Beem, Todd Hamilton, Y E Yang, Ogilvy, Glover, Weir, Toms etc. that began to belie the ‘cream rising to the top’ in Majors, almost making them like ordinary tour stops, but this has not been the case so much recently.

I’ve picked u up wrong then as I’ve read that as you’re viewing Curtis/hamilton/Lawrie as outliers and that likes of Simpson & dufner should be given more credit for further accomplishments other than major.
My bad

You could look at the likes of Wyndham Clark ,Harman, Fitzpatrick and Cam Smith

There have been 8 one time winners since 2018

Points Gap between Scheffler and Rory is larger than the number of points Rory currently has…and will be wider tomorrow.
Tigeresque
18 top 10s in a row now - if he keeps it up to the Players then he will have been top 10 in every event he played for a full calendar year!!! Did Tiger ever do that - if we exclude time periods with long injury layoffs?

27 is the record I think. (Yes I know Byron Nelson had loads more than that in the 40s; no disrespect but when so many of your competitors were rather busy fighting in Normandy and the Pacific and you were playing golf on a medical exemption then your record absolutely does not count).

EDIT: did I imagine the 27 number? Is Scheffler now the record holder?

It’s not quite the 19 point gap tiger had on Phil in 2001 but still very impressive.
I reckon Scheffler could take every week off between now and the masters and if Rory won every week from now including the masters Scheffler would still be number one.

I actually asked Grok to calculate this last week - it might even extend beyond that..

"Assuming Rory McIlroy wins every golf event he participates in starting from the week of February 16, 2026 (beginning with The Genesis Invitational), and Scottie Scheffler does not play any further events, it would take Rory approximately 8 weeks (or 2 months) to surpass Scheffler in the OWGR standings. This estimate assumes Rory plays and wins an event roughly every week with an average of 60 OWGR points per win (plus applicable multi-win bonuses), based on typical points distributions for PGA Tour events. In reality, the exact timeline could vary slightly depending on the specific schedule, field strengths, and points awarded at each tournament, but the dense PGA Tour calendar from February to April (including signature events, THE PLAYERS, and the Masters) aligns closely with this timeframe.
