And that’s when points weren’t always so unfairly balanced towards the PGAT - rankings were better then

OK, I'm bored of looking through PDFs now. 
Best I found was five in the top eight (2011 Wk18) or six in the top twelve (four weeks later).

Same way Ben Curtis, Tod Hamilton, Paul Lawrie etc won a major. They had a good week and shot lower scores than the rest of the field !
At least Duffner and Simpson made it to worlds top 10 so would suggest they had a good patch in their careers for at least a 2 year period as well as winning majors.
