what is my right side allowed to do in the backswing?

can it move to the right and if so how far is good?

I have/had a habit of straightening my right leg but am working on keeping the knee flexed. As a result my right leg feels unnaturally stiff during the backswing, and after a round or a session at the range my right hip and knee are giving me gip.

only in your reply to golf-bug in an earlier post.

I think my left side is fairly straight, nothing like the big C.
My problem was that I straightened my right knee and pushed my right leg back coming into the back swing. Now I'm trying to keep the right knee flexed, the right leg is becoming static. If you like a gate post on the right in the backswing and on the left at/after impact.

(sorry no pictures)

I tried this "Inside the gate" stance at the range tonight. Took a bit of getting used to to start with, but when I got the hang of moving my weight properly rather than sliding my hips the ball was much straighter and stronger in the air. Getting the feeling of tension in the inside of the right thigh seemed to be the key. No reverse pivot and a good follow through. Need to go back again later in the week and try it again.

Thanks bobmac.

DCB, glad the tip is helping you.
Dam, I should start charging for these tips.
I could take Tesco vouchers and airmiles.

Does anyone have any green shield stamps left? ;)

I'm going to say one thing. This (keeping the right knee flexed) is the SINGLE most influential discovery (from a pro at a lesson) I ever applied to my game...and saw the biggest improvement and h'cap drop during my "time" from 24 down to 8.

There are one or two players that can get away with allowing the right leg to straighten, but for me, it lies at the heart of a good swing. I still work on it EVERY time I practice. I also "brace" the knees a little, keeping the distance between the knees.
