Old Driver Recommendations

By far the Cleveland XML custom was the best club of 2013, rave reviews By everyone important and produced some amazing results especially with the black tie shaft in it as the shaft alone was over £200 and I reckon u would easily find one for well under £100

Before Benross and GM gave me my current driver I had (still do have, actually) one of the Wilson DXi HL drivers. Not the newer superlight version, I think this is the same model that I have and it's in your budget:

They're good clubs, 12* and also a slightly shorter shaft than the likes of TM so easier to control. When I bought it, I put it up against every other HL driver in the shop and this one had easily the best combination of distance and dispersion.

Loving my callaway FT-IQ since I bought it off Deke. Very forgiving and long. It's keeping the Razr Hawk 11.5 out the bag.

Most forgiving driver ever along with the FTIZ ,nothing comes close

Get the imix version and find the right shaft very cheaply, then try the newer callaway imix heads before going back to the FTIQ or FTIZ!

Ping G10 around £50
Titleist 983k around £30
Taylormade 320 around £25
All these will give the modern drivers a run for their money.

I recently brought a TM R9 460 with stiff shaft really pleased driving accuracy has improved immensely and would reccomend

I think mainly due to stiff shaft

I have been having a torrid time with my driver recently so shared my mates driver for 9 holes yesterday. Going back to a 12 degree regular was a revelation with gains in both yardage and accuracy.

I don't have the cash for the latest models if I want to buy something different so does anyone have any recommendations that can be picked up for as much under £100 as possible

We'd always recommend being fitted if you want the best gains possible, but if money is tight you're best off going for a 2013 model which will have all but the latest tech.

A quick search of American Golf revealed some good offers under £100 (http://www.americangolf.co.uk/golf-clubs/drivers/cleveland-golf-classic-xl-driver-245752.html) with plenty more probably available on auction sites, though you wont get the same product guarantees.

Agree, would normally dmgo down the fitting route but the funding is not there this time to spend that much. Was even surprised at ebay etc with people looking for £100 or more for some drivers over 5 years old. Was looking to pick up a used JPX800 cheap but prices seem high for a non premium club that is a few years old. Probably me being naive on the price of second hand clubs as never been down that route before

Got imix in both mine and picked up a RIP stiff shaft but still getting better results with the stock regular!

Ping Rapture.

I just tried mine on a Trackman vs the latest Ping i25 and it was longer and just as easy to hit.

My best buy was a Ping G15 for £56 on Ebay, so far, the easiest club I've ever hit.

My new Big Bertha Alpha arrives tomorrow curtesy of Kings of Distance, I just hope it behaves itself!

Looks like Ping may be the way forward. Found a place near me that specialises in used Ping so will head there. Prices a bit over budget so will have to hold until payday

I've had the G15 and K15 plus hit the G20 and G25. Still come back to the K15 which is a delight :-)

I'm going to say it again, but try a punt on the rapture v2. I'm a ping fanboy and have owned the g10, k15 and g20 in the past and the rapture surpasses them all. Nice traditional head shape and feels great.

While at Gainsborough last year I asked why the K15 was still so expensive, the answer it's still an active club! It's never been updated or superseded. Plus the fact it's a damn good club!

If you want something that sits very neutral and not stupidly closed, try a Mizuno MP650. Very muted sound and feels beautiful.
