Old clubs dont want to be replaced!!

I've been looking to replace my irons since picking the clubs back up again, I have a very old set of Ping Eye 2's at the moment and can hit them fairly ok.

I tried Clevelend CG16 Pearls and Wilson D-100's and could not hit them for toffee, Only had a few half decent shots with Benross Ripp's but dont feel comfy with either clubs. I really want to like the Clevelands though as they look great.

Do any of you have issues when trying new clubs?



Cant figure out why I can hit the old clubs but not new forgiving ones :mmm:

Eye 2s are actually really forgiving anyway! Plenty of folk still have an Eye 2 1 or 2 iron in their bag! I certainly know a couple!

One thing that might be affecting a comparison is the length and lie of the old ones. If they are significantly different to the new ones (and the new ones could well be longer) then the strikes will be 'off' until you get used to them. Your body will have adjusted to the Eyes, whether they are 'suited' or not!

Thats true, I suppose the options are get them regripped and cleaned up and use them until I get my h'cap down to a decent level or bite the bullet and change them.....

Might see the club pro for a few lessons and see what he thinks

Chances are you're trying too hard and swinging way too hard and fast. Keep it smooth and let the clubs work for you. I'd have thought if nothing else the shaft technology will have moved on which will help
