Went for a iron fitting on Thursday. Narrowed it down to a couple of possibles. Although the recommendation was for a slightly lighter shaft, no (hooray) mention of graphite!

However, all the test heads were 7 irons. I really wonder what the 5 iron or gap wedge feels like!🤣🤣

Seems an anomaly to me.

Never been for a fitting for a new set of irons and hit anything other than the 7-iron as far as I can recall.

I don't mind it, but then when you go to choose the make-up of your set you're just guessing. I started my irons at 6, but as I say, it's just a guess since I never hit a 5 or a 6 iron to see how well I hit them first.

I've always been of the opinion that if you only get to hit a 6 or a 7 in a fitting then you're really only being fitted for that club...
It's down to cost and that's not unreasonable but you have no idea whether you'll hit - and like - the others in the set well
With many irons being almost combo sets within the set the sound, feel and performance could easily change.
The Mizuno 925 Forged springs to mind
You have slots and tech and chromoly up to the 7 iron that you get fitted with...the rest are pure 1025E forging like the blades..totally different construction that some can feel and some can't..
The data can say Yes all it wants but if the other irons don't feel right you're not going to be comfortable with them
And when you're spending well over a grand I think you deserve a bit more than just having to base that buying decision on hitting 1 club out of the set.

SGGT fit with PW, 7i and 4i, I believe.
And they can put any grip on an iron too.
Most will fit with a 7i or 6i, and the fitter should be able to know how that will translate up and down the bag... if they're a good fitter.

SGGT build the clubs themselves. Heading there for a driver fitting on Tuesday. Booked about a month ago. They are pretty busy!

As do Precision Golf.
Glad we've a decent set up either end of the country (kind of).
Enjoy the fitting. Mate had a full bag fitted last year and thought it was great.
