not raking bunkers

as such ive not seen the culprits otherwise they would have been given a stern talking to.

was out in a tie last night and again a least half dozen bunkers un raked, where the culprits had walked over the rake to get to the ball.

My PP did question me what i was doing raking a bunker i wasn't in at one point (after the 10th;) by the way )

It's amazing how many footprints there can be in a bunker, but only once have I been certain that someone ahead of me didn't rake.
Saw sand fly out, then he walked staight out of bunker and carried on up fairway.

Layout meant that path went past their tee as we walked to our green. I didn't recognise the offender as a member, but knew one of his playing group, so went over and had a quick word with him, suggesting that it would be appreciated if his guest raked bunker after playing out of it.

The thing is, if you are playing in a 4 ball, how come the others in the group don't pick up on this? Unless they all think that it is the greenkeepers' job to rake bunkers

If one of my PP's goes into a bunker, as they play out if it is more effective timewise I will offer to rake the bunker for them so they can clean their club, mark their ball and be ready on the green. I've usually done this so happy to do this to speed up play and to make sure they are raked for the next people.

Sadly at our place it doesnt matter when you play there are just some lazy so and so's that are too bone idle, and like at other clubs just step over the rake. I have up to now twice ran a 100 yards and shouted at the group in front to 'kindly tidy up after yourself, I can see the rake from here, I'm sure you can' :D

They don't like it especially as I make sure other people here me so they all know who the culprits are. lmao

It doesn't really bother me all that much. It is a hazard after all! I'm just grateful if I've not sliced a chunky great stone in half that was lying just under the surface.

Me too - its a hazard I shouldn't have got into. On the odd occasion the ball finds a footprint I try to just get on with as I find whi9ttering on just affects my swing thoughts and worsen the shot - suck it up and play the game and ignore the unprincipled gits who are too lazy to leave the course in the condition they would like to find it.

But the problem is two fold. Firstly you need to be sure you have clearly identified the culprits.

Secondly clubs are short of money and so a fear of upsetting the 'customers' is tending to mean that good principles and 'rules' are not enforced as enthusiastically as the might be.

Honestly how hard is it to rake a bunker, when 9 times out of 10 you at your shot within 10-15 feet of a rake and it only takes 30 seconds to rake quite a big area correctly. Its the same at my club for bunkers and pitch marks and we do not accept visitors in the morning at the weekend so its the members causing the problems and they are also the people who moan that the green keepers have not completed other small tasks around the course.

Probably the same breed of golfer that never replaces fairway divots, or fills in divots with seed mix on tee boxes.

Maybe they feel under pressure from the 'ready golf' fraternity who's obsession is to play a round ASAP.

They're a pain in the arse, they make my life difficult.

With that being said though the majority of players rake bunkers so poorly they'd be as well not bothering.

Seems like it's spreading in town, every one I looked in last night hadn't been raked, including one who had stepped over the rake to get to the middle of the bunker!

A good few of our members are also over at the Dunbar and vice versa....

Was out last night for a few holes and pretty much none of the bunkers had been raked as it was raining earlier in the day. most footprints were from Ecco soft spikes, so we just need a red indian tracker to find the culprit ;)

I have this mad idea that all players have to present themselves to proshop before going out and have their spikes replaces with spikes in shape of their initials. So all footprints can be traced back...
