No work = Trip to American Golf

Interesting. When you say went better do you mean distance or flight or both? Good luck anyway I know how hard it is to settle on some clubs when you are looking for new shinies.
I hit a 7 iron with both the i20 and the amp, I was hitting the amp further with less effort as well, really felt like I had to give the i20 some extra zing to get it to go as far as the Amp.

Has anyone else noticed that the Orange advertising on this site appears to be having a subliminal effect on people? Its like we are being conditioned to accept orange as a natural golf colour scheme..

Orange is an awesome colour. I'm tempted by the AMPs because of the orange grips! (And this was before the orange advertising!!)

I think you are doing the right thing in trying clubs out and you will get a short list, i would say dont be too judging on the distances. A quick check on their websites and the specs for your top 2 are a bit different...

AMP 7I 31 deg Loft 37.25 Length
Ping I20 7I 33 deg Loft 36.75 Length

Try to look at consistency more, when you are on the course its not how far but consistent distances.

Good luck.

Fair enough sounds like your sorted then, all I will say is the I20's do go quite high so if you hit a high ball anyway then they may not be the club for you. Never really though of Cobra in the Iron market always associated them with Woods and Drivers. I will have to go and give some a try to see what their all about.

That might explain the extra distance then, both were consistent and both felt great but I just felt more comfortable with the Amp.

You see this is where I fall short when looking for clubs, I don't think to look at things like that. Both were regular though. I always feel like I shouldn't be asking such technical questions as I'm only a 17 handicapper.

It just seems odd that a different head can make a club feel easier to swing. My last driver felt like I had to leather it to get the best from it, and that shaft was a bit too stiff for me.

At least if you're planning on hitting them again they'll hopefully fit for the shaft as well as the head that you like.

Just remember you are the customer, it's your money, and ask as many questions as you like. Don't feel like they are doing you a favour by selling you golf clubs.

If you walk away with doubts you'll be thinking have you got the right clubs when it doesn't go so well on the course.

The lofts on the Amp are two degrees stronger than the Ping i20. As a result, they will be nearly a club longer through the set, so you should really be comparing the Amp 7i to the Ping 6i for a true comparison.

The Amp has a some what scary 44 degree PW.

Spoke to a nice guy at the Burgess Hill Golf Centre who was really helpful, told me he'd get me set up on the monitor which is also on the range so you can see the true flight. Said he'd get various different sticks out for me to try with different shafts and get me setup with exactly what I need. Think it might be worth a visit down there and as my in-laws are just down the road I can drop the wife and kids round there and kill two birds with one stone.

Now I just need to sort out my tax return and see how much money I owe Mr Taxman, hopefully there will be enough left over in my savings to then blow on a new set of bats! Mucho excited!
