No match thread??

I watched Chelsea play the other night and there was not one English player in the team.

I watched Hearts play a couple of days later with a team of young Scottish players 8 of whom were under 21.

I think Scotland will have a much better national team in 5 years time. I can't say the same for England.
Hope you are right.

Hearts had to, just as Southampton did. Short term they may go down like Southampton did, but longer term it may be a blessing in disguise. Good to see that Wenger always gives young British players a go in the team, and doesn't just buy abroad. If I was a top young British player I wouldn't go any where near Chelsea.

Tell me Freddie how are the rest of the Dreamers?

I did not say that.......I said that the Scottish team will improve as young players are getting match time.
If young English players are not even getting into the league teams how on earth do you expect the English team to improve.
The fact that a Scottish League player was picked for England's recent game tends to back that up..

Ryan Gould 17 years old valued at £5m target of Liverpool.
Team mate John Souter also 17 years old valued at £1m target of Everton.

Both regular first team players at Dundee United.

Disagree. If you look at some of the kids we have coming through in the U21s/U19 sides, I'd say the future is quite exciting, however we also need a manager with balls enough to get shot of the likes of Rooney Cole Gerrard etc and start giving there youngsters first team games.

I am pretty sure Liverpool will not pay £5m up front for any 17 year old without EPL experience.

Wilshere,Rooney,Cleverly,Sturridge,Welbeck,Henderson....... Not sure that if you watch much Premier league football but they all feature for the top clubs.Rooney seems to have done ok for himself amongst the foreign influx.
I wouldn't get too excited about the future of the Scottish national side just because Hearts have 8 Scottish Sunday league players in their starting 11:smirk:

Any young English player who can't force his way through isn't gonna play for England!
Not sure about that. It will just take longer. You will not get the 18/19 year old getting a chance, but by the time they are 21/22 they will be in the team. Our goalkeeper Alex McCarthy had to wait until he was 22, kept out by an Aussie, and he got into the England squad a few months ago, and will definitely play for England. One of the reasons British players mature later than foreign players is they don't get their chance as early.

Players are being picked for England that are not regulars at their Club. That never used to happen.
