No match thread??

Still something of a 'proving' area in some respects.

Good to see Hart back to form. Disappointing to see him feature so much!

At least England are going to Brazil for the World Cup - though I don't expect them to do particularly well. Scotland won't be 'notable' by their absence!

Are people really getting the hump over a bit of banter regarding football?
England are shocking & look to be getting worse. As for Scotland.....

E gads LB .. what a load of .................................. BRILLIANCE ... that has to be the best post ive read on here in a long time if not the best post ever ... top marks old bean
I'd love to say it was my own words, but as said, it was elsewhere. The first 2-3 lines were mine though.

I take it Engerlund are still favourites for the World Cup despite getting horsed off a bunch of reserves?

Ah! the inventive Scottish mind.

Where or by whom has it been claimed that England are favourites for the World Cup. I don't think you will find anyone on here has suggested that.

Sorry; good try but no cigar!

Not heard the expression horsed off. I take it you are not English ?

It amazes me that Scotland have not qualified for a major tournament since 1998. Must just keep getting unlucky in the qualifying draw.:mmm:

In all seriousness, England would have struggled to get out of quite a few of those groups. Of course we get those draws due to our abysmal fifa/uefa rankings which is pretty much our own fault.....

But the truth is Scotland just do not have the players. Compare the quality of their players in the 60's and 70's to those of today. When ever I watch Scottish league matches the teams are full of average foreign players, with very few young talented Scottish players. Celtic and in the past Rangers seemed to buy all the talented Scottish players, even if it was to put them in the reserves. Seemed from the outside their main aim was to weaken the other Scottish Clubs.

England is having the same problem, with even teams in the Championship having a high percentage of average foreign players keeping out the young English players. Hopefully teams will see what is happening at clubs like Southampton, and invest more in a youth policy. At Reading we have some quality youngsters coming through, who I get more enjoyment watching play than past it Premier league players.

No argument here. Most (if not all) of the current Scotland team wouldn't have got a look in back then.

I think the wheel has turned though, most Scottish clubs no longer feature huge numbers of foreigners. Hopefully in the long run the national team will benefit.

I watched Chelsea play the other night and there was not one English player in the team.

I watched Hearts play a couple of days later with a team of young Scottish players 8 of whom were under 21.

I think Scotland will have a much better national team in 5 years time. I can't say the same for England.

I have had a read through the posts and have to make only one observation

Whilst we won't get near winning the World Cup it appears to me that we have qualified to play in the final stages. Teams that havnt qualified from Great Britain and Northern Ireland will, of course, get behind us I am sure!

But then I am a Crystal Palace season ticket holder, what do I know about football - oh yes! How to be losers mmmmmmm doesn't that remind us of the rest of the UK teams ?
