No 1 Swing Fundamental

I gave my fundamental, you give yours. If you cant understand what 'maintaining your spine angle' means then go split hairs somewhere else.

I understand perfectly and I don't even need to cry about it.

What you are refering to is know as 'maintaining your inclination to the ground' and it has nothing to do with spine angle as the spine angle constantly changes in the swing from a forward tilt to a side tilt and back again. I agree that understanding this principle IS very important however the purpose behind maintaining your inclination to the ground it is to maintain a steady head.... which is the No1 fundamental I posted.

Boo hoo..

Anyone that has ever seen my horror swing live and close up or on video will know that a loss of spine angle is something I've fought against (and lost) for years. I think I'm at the stage now where it will always be there so MY swing fundamental now is tempo and giving myself time to get the club back to the ball in as controlled a way as I can

So, again you have hijacked my answer with semantics but not given an answer yourself.. Come on James lets hear what your answer is.

Just shows with so many different opinions how many things there are to learn in this game.

I'm taking note of them all and will compile a 63 point check list to run through before each shot, like a pilot before take off.

I am in the last group at Woburn aren't I?

Even if you aren't, you soon will be!

Hijacked? What because I disagree with your view? Am I asking about MP63's or talking about ballflight laws? I think not... I assure you my reply was on topic with the thread.

The grip is very much a fundamental of the golf swing.

The grip isn't a fundamental of the golf swing - there's weak grips, neutral grips and strong grips and they can all get the job done. Likewise with interlocking, vardon, double-overlap, baseball etc etc

Holding the club I expect would be a fundamental unless you could figure a way to throw the club at the ball.

I believe the number one swing fundimental in the golf swing is maintaining your spine angle.

What do you think is the No 1 swing fundimental:

Definitely not a fundamental in my book. A good thing to try and achieve, normally, but so much of the swing has happened before you are able to say 'I maintained my spine angle' that it cannot be a 'fundamental'.

Fundamentals to me are: Visualisation - of the shot; Alignment - for the shot; Grip - for the shot; Ball position - for the shot; Club Face angle - for the shot. Comfort of Stance.

All equally important.

And I haven't started swinging at that stage.

Anyone care to define 'fundamental' for me?

As far as I'm concerned it's 'an essential part' IE one of several essential parts.

So the 'no one fundamental' has to be the first essential part, then you are talking about alignment.

If you are talking about the most essential part, well then you are obviously talking about about , ummm, alignment. If you are aiming into the trees, you can put the most fantastic swing on it, with the most perfect impact, and you are still playing three off the tee.

Unless the face angle is such that the ball goes elsewhere! So agreed, no 1 fundamental but several related ones.

This has been a very interesting thread.

Clearly people are interpreting the concept of "swing fundemental" differently.

I interpreted it as what is the basic key element of the golf swing.

Things like grip, alignment etc enable a good swing but are part of the set up.

One way I thought of looking at it is, if you were teaching a complete beginner, once you had them set up properly (and that is a thread in itself!), what would be the first thing you would tell them in relation to actually swinging the club?
