NFL 2024

Only saw the score - just shows that players never tank. Some of them give up (Jets Jets Jets).
But the only story I was concerned about from Sunday's games - THANK YOU WASHINGTON.

Someone asked me on air at the weekend about the difference between allegedly tanking and giving up. And there is a difference.

Tanking is prevalent in the NBA and everyone just accepts it. The NFL is different because of the number of players involved, free agency etc. The nearest anyone is coming to it this year is in Cleveland where the Browns would have a small chance to win with Winston at QB and no chance with DTR or whatever his initials are. So they play the latter to make sure they have the best chance of losing. The wins for the Raiders and Giants in the last fortnight have shown how players on the field give it their all.

Until you get to the Jets. Who have given up the most I have ever seen an NFL team. All the stories coming out of their complex are a total dysfunctional team, players screaming at each other, the coaching staff going through the motions. In their game against the Bills, Aaron Rodgers could have run for a TD but did not want to take the chance of being hit so pulls up, throws a crappy pass and then yells at the receiver for not making the catch. That locker room is just horrible right now and the Jets need to cut Rodgers as soon as possible.

Back in 1986, the Bucs were the worst team I have ever seen getting beat by 30 points a game. I know a lot of the players from that team and to a man they all say the players were trying hard and giving it their all but the coaching staff had just given up knowing they were getting fired.

Texans a few season back won their last game which meant they picked second in the draft. Luvvy was pilloried for that win but they dodged a bullet by not having that first pick!

Reason I asked if the GM was having a fit is that he has nothing to do with the game play but everything to do with the draft.

I went back to watch the Bucs' 2014 season finale when players were "being rested" in the second half on GM instructions. I know from the people involved it really happened. It is hilarious watching the lack of originality in the play calling. And the result was Winston over Mariota.
Lovie Smith was coach of that team as well. He was past it as a coach in 2014/15 with the Bucs and then the Texans gave him a year.

Brian Billick did a good book a few years back about the 2018 QB draft and the hits and misses. There are a few factual errors and Billick is the most arrogant nob in NFL history which is why he never got another coaching gig but the basics of the book are pretty good on vetting QBs coming out of college and the 50-50 hit/miss ratio on the first rounders. Which is quite apt as the Bucs have had Vinny Testaverde, Trent Dilfer, Josh Freeman and Jameis Winston. Two of them are friends and I know the reasons behind them not succeeding to the level they should.

I don’t think it would be lack of talent.

Was it:
-Work Ethic
-Injury
-Booze/drugs
-A shocking O Line which never game them a chance
-team ethos
-coach issues

All I will say is Vinny was ruined by his father and his first pro coach Ray Perkins. Winston is what he is. I am not commenting on Josh or Trent.

Many of the raiders forums are saying we should go all in on Saunders but from what I've seen he's not that great at playing to a scheme.
Helps of course if you have a good OC and not a clown like Getsy.

Not sure any of the QB's in this year's draft are any good.

Watched the ECU / NC state bowl game , crazy ending 😳

And here comes the annual gnashing of teeth from all 32 fan bases about "our player(s) got snubbed for the Pro Bowl". They only see it through their own blinkered vision and just because one of their favourites has had what they think is a decent season, does not mean they are one of the best around the NFL.

But get rid of the voting by the fans - like anyone (and I include myself here) know who the best offensive linemen in each conference are for that year. Let the players/GMs vote and only vote on their own conference.
And then take the game back to being in Hawaii, AFTER the Super Bowl. Make it an end-of-term party with an actual game but ease up on the tackling just like they used to.

Then again, I was once asked by Sky to cover the Pro Bowl and told my producer that he didn't have enough money in his budget to get me into the studio to commentate on it :p

Not sure if I want Miami to reach the play offs or not. The draft issue aside, not that that makes any difference, I think we'd get mauled at the Bills. Huntley seems to want it sooooooo much more than Tua.

I did call the Pats move 24 hours ago :-) Some unreal results with players proving that they do not tank - teams try (Cleveland playing Bailey Crappy Zappe at QB Saturday) but the likes of the Pats, Jets and Panthers all dropping their draft stock.
As for the Bucs - I am too old for stress like that and apparently it was worse in the stadium itself. When we completed the 4th and 8 long pass to Jalen McMillan and then scored, I sent Neil Reynolds the meme of "I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue" - summed it up.
Now we get to lose to Washington as we are down to our 5th/6th string safeties, signing guys off the street to play LB and undrafted free agents starting at corner.

Rehashing a gag we did in Extra Point years ago, Taylor Swift is going to release a new version of "Return to sender" by Elvis.

I put on my jacket and make-up
15 wins already on board
Stood posing for the cameras
But the Chiefs never scored

The scoreboard told her

Shutout by Denver
Endzone unknown
No Chiefs scoring
Zip in the redzone

@Tashyboy The first trade of 2025 has just happened. The Patriots traded the 1st overall pick they had on Saturday for the 4th overall pick. They also moved down three spots in each round. And in return they got Jack Schitt. :ROFLMAO:
