Hi People,

Im new to the game been playing since march this year. Just wanted to ask how long was it before any of you played in your first medal or tournament?

I am really enjoying the game and bought a new set of callaway X2 hot clubs. Another question I have is, My shots are inconsistent, sometimes I will hit a driver 250+ then the following iron shot I hit the ground or mess it up, what am I doing wrong?

You are what is known as - an Amatuer HC club golfer

The main thing is to just concentrate on each shot

I played 1 medal after a few months and shot 116. Then didnt play any until the next season and ive never looked back since.

Id recommend them for sure, just go out forget about scoring and enjoy yourself at first

Welcome :)

You are not doing anything wrong, just experiencing what every newcomer to the game goes through. The best advice I can offer is to take lessons sooner rather than later before you groove too many bad habits into your swing.

Enjoy the journey

After getting back into golf I waited 3 seasons before playing in medals, but now that I do I really enjoy them. I wanted to get better before playing in them but once I started no one really cared what I shot it was just nice to get out with different people to play with.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have been playing with guys who have low HC and they have been huge help on my game ad bringing down my scores, my clubs course is a 72 par and I get round with an average of 93 thats coming down from my first round which was 118!! My driving is great but my putting is where my game takes a downturn but im working on it, I know everyone has to start somewhere, but if I play in a medal am i playing against people of same level as me or is it any level enters them?

Welcome along. Doubt you're doing anything wrong apart from inconsistency. Did you have any lessons with you started? It might be worth getting one with a local pro just so he can check your basics (grip, posture alignment etc) and give you a few pointers about the swing

Ive not had an official lesson as yet, but when I bought my clubs i had a custom fitting which checked my swing speed etc and the guy was really helpful which has made my drive very consistant and straight every time. So that im happy with, its my putting and pitching from close range I just cant seem to read the speed of greens and my chipping is either too short or too hard, but its a challenge im relishing! I just wish i started playing when I younger!!

People of all abilities will be entering. But that's what handicaps are for. Don't worry about them; just enter, play your own game and enjoy it.

Welcome by the way.

I'm new to the game as well, seems to have taken over my life :D. I'm going to get the winter under my belt before I consider entering anything.

Welcome! Have a few lessons and work on what you need to fix at the time, long game , irons then short game and it will come together really quickly.

Just don't expect your scores to come down in winter because almost every shot needs an extra club length and long grass and lots of wet leaves makes playing a challenge.

I know everyone has to start somewhere, but if I play in a medal am i playing against people of same level as me or is it any level enters them?

you have got he bug
you have joined a club
you have found people to play with

now get your cards in for a handicap to be allocated

then just join in competitions and meet even more people!

enjoy the game

I played in one competition at my old club, did shockingly then decided to take a season out to get to grips with my game. This season at my new club I have played every competition I could and slowly have been feeling less pressured with each one I play with my strokes slowly decreasing as well.

Still not had a cut from a competition yet however.

Welcome aboard and good luck!

When I first started. The club I joined was linked to a muni. So every round was a comp round even the 3 for handicap. So no pressure, didn't even give it a second thought.
