New Taylormade M1 Driver.

I like the looks of it but I am not the quickest to change my driver. By the time I do change, they will probably be on the M50 so I should get one for a fiver.

just the same as you Bigfoot,i have recently moved to a SLDR and as much as i like the look of the M1 it will be a while before it is changed .i think i must be tight as i like to get my moneys worth out of a driver ,or irons come to that.

I hit one against my sldr. I only had about 8 balls with it as there was a queue amongst the belfry pro's. I picked up 3mph more ball speed than my sldr. Same shaft in both btw.

I wasn't a fan at first but in hand it does look good

but you will be able to pick it up for half price in a years time. :

Which brings into question the sanity of buying it now......even 6 months down the line it will be cheaper.
A retailer's nightmare.
You only have to look at the old stock in AG and DG to wonder how they stay in business.

There is no sanity.
Anyone that pays this kind of money for a driver, obviously has money than sense.

But you're assuming they pay a flat rate across the product life cycle. Retailers know roughly how much they shift of new releases at different stages of the lifecycle. So they'll buy those amounts. As the product gets older and depreciates they probably get a reduced rate from the manufacturer. When I worked in sport we multiplied unit cost by 2 - 2.2 and the added VAT.

The actual production costs are low it's the R&D budget that is where the cost is.

OK ,I'll go with that
But the retailers still have huge amounts of old stock on their shelves - the number of SLDRs in my local AG needs more fingers and toes than both of us have..!
Add to that Callaway 2014 clubs, 913 Titleist, G25s etc etc there's a shed load of stock that's been purchased but not sold - and a lot of it won't be....

so what happens to all this old stock that will probably never be shifted through normal channels .ie;who or where do they get sold to and for what.cos thats where i want to buy from.

It's good kit so I imagine at some point they'll have a blowout and sell it at cost plus VAT or the manufacturers won't want it offloaded that cheap so will buy it back at a price where both retailer and manufacturer take a hit

My friend who is a club builder who used to fit orka and wishon started fitting tm. He's now upto his neck in debt because of the minimum stock he had to buy. He has a room full of drivers and iron sets that he has to sell at a loss. I said " well what did you expect from tm?" he told me the rep assured him there would be no new club releases until april next year. The mug believed him too!!!!
