Ok, so we've played for 3 months now and I wonder how the new rules of 2019 are bedding in for you and your pals?

Personally the only one that I still haven't seen done well is anyone timing a 3 minute search.
Almost every group seem to say "we'll putt with the flag in unless anyone wants it removed"
Guys at mine asked yesterday if I knew why the yellow hazard markers had disappeared and replaced by red - I did know

How about it?

I put a little stop watch on my trolley, I was amazed how quickly 3 minutes passed when searching yesterday, and I bet that rule is abused often.

No problems apart from the 3min rule where folk are finding it's a bit tight.

PS: @chrisd up your course for our annual pilgrimage in 3 weeks prior to hoping over to Le Touquet, how's it coming on.

Not bad, greens tined 3 weeks ago, lots of course maintenance done in the last year including tree work. Just need some decent weather now. Let me know when you're there

We use the OB/lost ball rule when we're not playing a qualifier although I still tend to hit a provisional. Can save a bit of time.
We putt with the flag in, have done since day 1. When CVG's mate visited he wanted the flag out when he got closer and it actually felt weird standing there holding it.
Still not a fan of the new drop. It's not an issue with actually doing it, I'm still not convinced that it needed changing.
Surprised Fragger and CVG a few weeks back by swapping balls mid-hole - that was quite fun!
We must have been playing respectably or when we do hit a ball into the depths we find it quite quickly as we've yet to run up near the 3 minutes.

We seem to have taken to them OK, a few have asked why we aren’t using the “new oob rule” as it’s in the Rule book and a few dropping from the wrong height initially.
Nothing else seems to have come to light.

When BlueinMunich and I were away in Bermuda a couple of weeks back and I lost a ball oob, they said to play the ne drop rule and were quite surprised when I said we dont do it as it isn't allowed in comps back home

Not overly concerned but will be interested to watch and see if it comes in when we move to the WHS.
We are allowing it social golf and encouraging societies and visitors to consider using it when visiting.

So far so good with the people I've played with. Drop rule = fine, flag = fine, searching = fine (I don't play with anyone who would take the full 5 mins so 3 is not an issue), yellow/red posts = never understood any of that anyway so nothing has changed 🤣.

All in all they are working well in my little world and the pro's should be embarrassed by their whingeing.

Flag in or out hasn’t made much difference

The drop height is the only one which is a pain

It’s a shocking waste of time change , has added nothing , doesn’t stop the ball rolling away

Poor rule change

Having issues with the flag rule. People keep wanting it out.
Really irritating when I’ve putted up to the hole, then finished it off and playing partners are still lining up for their first. Waiting for the flag pulled.

I’m enjoying the 3 minute rule. By the time I’ve hit my shot then gone to the location of pp ball, a minute and half has passed. Which means I don’t have to walk through jungles for as long.

Wait til you play slick, hard, sloping fairways.

Flag in has sped up play on our big links greens

New drop height is fine - some players contort themselves trying to drop to the side - but just bend forwards and drop.

3 min search has been fine so far

Grounding club in penalty area ( = beach for us ) is a good change - its hard enough. Same with being able to move loose impediments in penalty area.

I've seen very little 'gardening' on the green repairing 'damage'. I feared this would slow things down but this is not borne out in practice.

All in all positive change.

I have stopped putting with the flag in on most occasions (as I expected I would). Our flagsticks are metal and a bit on the thick side and after a couple of bounce outs I have made that decision. The other thing I found was that I was aiming an pacing for the flagstick rather then the back of the hole.

We are generally playing those who want the flag in putt first and once it is out it stays out.

I liked the substituting ball for lift clean and place after playing a provisional and realising it was not the same make as I was playing.

3 minutes for search can clearly be seen not working but there again those that do not adhere to it probably did not stick with the 5 minutes either. I made a passing remark to one committee member about it, he was coming in the opposite direction searching in the rough on our side of the trees, but was just ignored.

We have always played Ready Golf so no change. Many players still don't want to play Ready Golf.

Have had 3 or 4 insist that it is a new rule, although I've never had anyone try and use it. Many people don't understand the 'local rule' distinction.

Dropped from shoulder height and didn’t notice until pp told me??
No problems apart from that.
Lads who want flag in putt then once out it stays out, except one player who wanted it in for every putt.
That’s fine it’s his choice.

Yeah Ok, all positive changes I think. I find it odd that people still want the flag out or tended on long putts.
I find it odd that people want it in!
It’s a choice !
If we were all the same it would be boring.
On long putts I want the flag out,but can’t see the hole so need it tended .
It’s a personal choice nothing more.
