17 oof us left work after many years yesterday (long story) so was on the lash from mid-day til late last night. Very poor state of affairs this morning, but we had always planned that we would play golf in the midweek comp. Very low expectations, but made 11 pars and 5 bogies (off 13) for a respectable 39 points off the back tees. Accordingly I shall be getting absolutely wrecked the day before every round now.

Though I have a sneaky feeling that it was my low expectations that took the pressure off...

This is my normal medal preparation. It only fails when you sober up and the nerves creep in, so I advise carrying a hip flask, to keep topped up. As long as you are more concerned with keeping breakfast down than playing well, you will be fine.

I played with the old England wicket keeper form the 50's and 60's Godfrey Evans in a pro am once and I think he had subscribed to the same preround routine. One of the caddy's had to find him in the clubhouse (bar) and escort him to find his clubs and shoes and get him onto the tee. Unfortunately being a well known event there were hospitality tents on the 6th, a halfway house and another hospitality tent on 14. Lets just say Godfrey never came out to bat for the second innings (back 9)

And now the results for the comp are in - I came 4th, so no prize, but got chopped to 12.9 - a new all time low, and just shy of my target of 12.4 (Category 2)for the year.
