It was a long time in the making, but our new par 3 course opened earlier this year.

I must admit this isn't the sort of thing I expected when it was being marketed as "for all the family". Not sure a 10yo beginner would fancy this tee shot!

be honest Gary, it's you who is afraid......

Is the par 3 course included n your annual fees? If it is and all the holes look like that then you are definitely getting value for money.

It's not as daunting as it looks really, it's only about 100yds to that step in the green.

Originally they were going to keep the subs as they were and not include the small course but discount our green fees for it. It's only a fiver for the public so it would've cost us maybe 2 or 3 quid for 9 holes.

When it opened though they decided to try to keep members and bring new ones in that they would freeze subs at last year's prices plus include the par 3 course in with it, so a bit of a result for us.

Not all the holes are like that though. There are 3 holes over water and a couple of tight ones as well as 4 plain-ish ones. Distances range from 90-160yds.

Whereabouts have they built it Gary? Trying to imagine where the space was.

Where you'd turn right through the gates of our car park it's straight in front of you. It runs to the main road between the train line and the short par 3 13th.

It's worth a go if you have a fiver and 90 minutes to spare

You are not really selling the course Gary. Near the car park, main road, and train line. Photo does look good though.

nice, not unlike our 9th!

I thought that, be quite fun to play that as a 'new' golfer, hope they have a favourable drop zone.

Region 3 do you mean right as you turn out of the gates, isn't the driving range on the right as you go in.

No, on your way in before you turn through the gates. This might help.....

Yes it does help, that's where I was thinking.

If your place has it's offers on again in the off season I may pop up and play it.

I like the look of this. Something that would attract me to joining a club. Quite often I fancy getting out and playing, but only from 150 yards in. Couple of rounds a week would have your short game honed!

How's it working out Region3? Played it recently and greens are simiar to main course, nice little practice area. Few people on, not too busy ideal to whip round. Enjoyed it, interesting for beginners and some worth to better players I'd have thought.

I'm glad the greens are better now, obviously being new they have taken a while to settle in.

I've spent a few hours on the chipping green but only been round the course a couple of times.
I like it, the only thing I'd change is to have a bit more variety in the length of the holes including a couple of pitch length ones.

Considering our subs didn't go up its a winner for the members!
