After developing a rather nasty snap hook recently, and enduring some "range rage" trying to put it right, I finally decided to get a lesson for the first time in 12 years.

What a revelation! David ord at the local range to me in Sunderland, in 30 mins has transformed my game.

Two simple changes over 30 mins and a few trips to the range and 500 balls later and I've never hit the ball so cleanly, just in time for my annual 3 day trip this weekend.

If anyone else has struggled away with mag tips and you tube for years, get yourself to a pro, pronto! If you get the right one, as I did you won't look back.

I find it amazing how many people try to self diagnose and sort out their golf problems, when a decent pro can set them straight in a single lesson

Nail and head NM, I've hit a few golden steaks over the years but never managed to make it stick, this however is something totally different in the sense that I haven't made it up myself. I know what's right and wrong now and can easy go back to the key parts and re groove if it goes wrong. In the past I would have added another layer of bad habits.

I can't believe the difference and when I'm not grinning from ear to ear I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner

Nice one.. I have a 1hour session a week at the moment to refine my game also. Its amazing how many people avoid lessons for fear of messing their swing up!

Simple answer - money, or lack of it.

I can understand this as that's been a strong reason for me in the past, but in my case a half hour £25 lesson has made such a difference , it's worth it alone if you have a specific issue such as hook slice as at least you have some sound advice to base yr practice sessions on.

wish mine worked in a single lesson, not the pro,i i'm having trouble gasping it, bloody killing my game!!!

I asked about this when booking my lesson, as I only had the hok issue with the big sticks and haven't hit my irons any sweeter ever, he was happy to not tinker too much and pointed out the good things as well as the fundamentals causing my problems. Was terrified that I would walk from a lesson with my head full of stuff, but he seemed at ease with what I wanted and delivered just that.

Never understood that as a reason.

If you can afford to play the game regularly (by paying green fees/club membership/competition fees, whatever) than surely you can afford £20 for ONE lesson?

I understand that money might not allow for regular lessons but you can learn so much from just one if you already have a decent base to work from.

For me it was always a case of "I will get it right eventually" and proffered to spend money on fees, but if I could it again there's a ton of kit and rounds I would sacrifice to have had some solid lessons from the outset

Great analogy. You could look at it another way. 5 x £5 range baskets trying to get it right yourself or one lesson which cures what ails you

That's it for me, except tried that first and was about ready to give in, the relief of having the issue resolved is brilliant and I can't wait to reap the benefits on the course, never been an avid practice player either but I'm actually excited to go the range even now!

I can totally relate to this JF69 as after yonks messing with stance, grip and whatnot to sort my driver out I booked a lesson last week and am absolutely creaming it. Still the odd bad one but night and day compared to my old swing with the big dog.

Now to sort my irons, wedges & putting ;)
