We have this. I don't know the answer but it isn't excessive. I barely notice and it isn't enough to push me into paying more.

It seems a bit random. Sometimes it’s every 20-30 minutes, other times I’ve just had a couple of ads at the start of the programme, then no more interruptions.

Quick update here:
Wife bought the basic with ads sub for MIL for Xmas.
However as her TV ( Samsung) is oldish (2014) this sub wouldn't run on it so she's had to upgrade to the basic without ads
Seems like a con to me.

It's not noticeable at all from my experience.

I would presume this is due to the Netflix app needing to be one of the later versions, because a number of the ads are "interactive" and have some funny menu behaviours.
