Here is my latest effort. Been working hard on getting on plane at 9 o'clock. This has been my biggest fault for ever, but I'm really pleased to be bang on here.

The rest of it is still a bit dodgy, and the video isn't the greatest, but it's moving in the right direction and my ball striking is good.

I'm working with Dan Whittaker at Altrincham Golf Range.

Blimey it's dark where you live :D

It looks like you are a little above the plane (a bit steep) to me, it's really hard to tell with a video you can't actually see! Draw a line up the club shaft and you should more or less get your plane... of course it makes a bit of a mess on your PC screen :D

I'd try to get a little more spine angle there, then as you turn your shoulders the club will go up on plane automatically without you having to 'lift' it. If you draw a vertical line from your waist and an angled line up your back (spine) it looks like about 30°, closer to 40 would be cool. You almost looked uncomfortable. When I watched it I thought you looked like an 8 handicapper... so that's good news now that I actually read your signature and see that it says 12 :D

hope my opinion is of some use.

You should try and get a vid from the front aswell.

ADDED:: The camera angle looks a bit low - that may affect how your swing plane looks from where I'm sitting :)

Thanks for that, mate. I play to a 12 despite only managing 8 rounds last year. It's pretty much all down to my rusty short game.

This was taken at the end of my session and I've definitely got sloppy with my set-up by then. That the trouble with working on one thing, you lose awareness of the others.

I'm actually bang on the shaft plane at 9 o'clock (V1 tells me so!), but you're right about the lifting up at the top, and you're right about the reason. More spine angle and better rotation. I've always had a bit of an overswing problem and this is one of the reasons. I'd imagine that'll be the next thing Dan and I work on.

The way you set up to your first swing it looked like you sat down onto your legs. My preference is shoulders slightly more forward and flex the knees to give you balance instead of sitting back.... just my humble opinion of course :)

When you do that drill before you swing, where are you trying to get the clubshaft and clubface at the 9 o'clock position. As it is in the video?

I'm just trying to get the shaft on plane and the face should be starting to open up. The swing pattern I'm learning requires me to be much more cupped at the top. I really want to have the same cup at the top as I do at address.

The drill is my way of stopping me taking it back REALLY closed and inside.

I see. Ask your pro to check the direction of the shaft at 9 o'clock. You may have gone from being too 'inside' to a little outside.
What concerns me is you have a lovely flat left wrist at the top of your backswing, but the club face is trying to point at the sky (closed)
Is your grip a little strong?

Bob, the pattern I'm learning requires the wrist to be cupped at the top - something I'm still not getting down - , which is why the clubface is so closed here. The idea is to open the face going back and have very passive hands through the impact zone relying in your pivot to square the clubface.

Yes, I maybe getting a little outside here. Dan's not got back to me yet on this video.

This'll mess you up...

I made a pic of Tiger 90° back with a 4-iron and with a 3-wood :)

hehe :)

I just made this one for you too...

You're lower back has straightened you up which will result in loss of power as you'll be hitting with your arms and not your torque (big muscles).
Look for a good posture and try to rotate back and thru, not stand tall. (unless you're on stack and tilt in which case you look great!!) hehe :)

Yep, I know. It's called "humping the goat" I'm sure we'll get to that, but I like working with Dan because he only lets me work on one aspect of my swing util I own it. Stops me getting confused in my old age. ;)

Can I just add that you have great Tempo. Dont loose that what ever you do!

Good luck with the swing changes, they can be a nightmare, but worth it in the long run!
