My Swing Speed Journey

There is also a club that is lighter than your driver which helps your body get used to swinging faster. In the Super Speed system the green is lighter, blue around the same and red is heavier.
Yea the light green stick I’m currently 125mph with that if only my driver could go at they speeds life would be good lol

I've really been missing the training and whilst my wrist still isn't 100% I'm not sure it ever will be.

Therefore, I've just finished my first speed session since April and the results were very promising:

Wrist feels okay afterwards and I'm going to try and get back on it regularly from here on in and will see where I can take it.

I have a question for those with speed sticks. I understand that they're weighted and I understand the sort of principle, but if you're not doing a proper golf swing and instead just swinging like a loony, could you not see improvement just by swinging your driver around in the garden? Does the weight make that much difference?

And is the crazy swinging with something that's not a club, and not hitting a ball, at a risk of just messing up your swing?

I understand that I sound sceptical, I'm not at all, I'm genuinely interested in your feelings but it's hard to put that across in text :)
I completely agree with what @Golf is fun said. To add something I feel that you may improve (almost) the same by doing the protocol just with the driver. You also improve a lot if you do speed training while hitting balls (which I also do).

BUT this only happen if you don't care where the ball goes and you try as hard as possible without considering technique. If you are thinking about your swing, or trying not to miss, you are NOT training for speed.

I want to say that in my case speed what was I was lacking to play "good" (could be something mental). Now I don't have to think about hitting long, it happens naturally, so now I can focus on other parts while playing on the course (contact, direction, spin...). This happen not only with the driver but even whith short irons.

You can definitely gain speed just by using your driver. Go to Trackman Range or Toptracer range and hit 25 balls all out with no concern for direction or shot shape, and track the ball speed. Repeat twice a week for several weeks and you will gain speed.

I love the idea of doing this and everyone else at the range watching you and thinking "Christ he is awful, he's spraying it all over the place".

You will be surprised how good the ball goes when trying to increase speed! but yes, if you have one of those days it is funny indeed 😅

Anyone watched Grant Horvat's video with Rory? Rory says the same thing about when he's working on speed - he doesn't care for direction and at some points he's actually missing the range! It's quite hard to believe when in the video he hits something like 192mph ball speeds and you could throw your hat on them they're grouped so tightly

I did , was really interesting. Also watching some paddy Harrington stuff too. 190 ball speed, thats immense

Put a nail through my finger today at work with a nail gun, that's me out of action for a couple of weeks, you can't make it up.....
I understand we all want to play like Scheffler but we don't have to go out inflicting injuries on our hands

Was on Trackman last night and I noticed when you go into the Shot Analysis mode at the bottom there was a Speed Training button. When you click it Trackman will measure your swing speed without hitting a ball.

So after doing my wedge work and some stance/path experimenting with an 8 iron I gave the Speed Training a go for the last 30 minutes (had it booked for 2 hours). Managed to get the green speed stick up to 120mph. Then got my driver out and swinging flat out the fastest one was the last one at 113mph. Went back into Shot Analysis, put a ball down, swung away and clubhead speed was 103mph with 152mph ball speed.

I'm also sure I've got "indoor swing syndrome" even although the room is plenty big enough as I can't hit my driver worth a damn in that room, they are all either duck hooks when I find the middle or massive slices off the toe. Then on the course this morning first swing straight out the car with no warmup as the guys in front didn't show up and the lads were already on the tee I sent a belter straight down the middle which was in line with 2 of the lads who are normally 20 yards past me. I then proceed to hit 6 of 8 fairways on the front with the 2 I missed being in the first cut. Think I hit 11 out of 15 fairways today in total yet if you saw me on the sim 12 hours before you would think I'd never swung a club in my life.

Week 5 finished starting speeds 101/101/101 and after routine 105/107/107 that’s still with the foam balls last week. Plan next week is to do at least one of the sessions at the driving range hitting real balls, I have it in my head the foam balls are slower. I hit a PB of 125mph with the green stick so I think I’m getting faster slowly but surely.

Started the final week of the 1 protocol, slowly getting the sticks faster. A long way off you speedsters a 106 on the green but going up for sure.

Has anyone did the part 2 after 6 weeks ? I’ve never made it to part 2 I always do 5/6 weeks then stop. I am not even sure what part 2 is. I’ll need to look it up on YouTube. Also does everyone one do the left handed swings ? I only do the right handed ones I hurt my shoulder last year doing the left handed ones and never went back to them.

I will be starting that next week , I do the left handed swings . They feel very awkward and I don't swap the prgr round to measure them.
