My Swing Speed Journey

Then on the course this morning first swing straight out the car with no warmup as the guys in front didn't show up and the lads were already on the tee I sent a belter straight down the middle which was in line with 2 of the lads who are normally 20 yards past me. I then proceed to hit 6 of 8 fairways on the front with the 2 I missed being in the first cut. Think I hit 11 out of 15 fairways today in total yet if you saw me on the sim 12 hours before you would think I'd never swung a club in my life.
That also happened to me, for some reason without training for control and accuracy I am way better on the course after speed training!:D

Has anyone did the part 2 after 6 weeks ? I’ve never made it to part 2 I always do 5/6 weeks then stop. I am not even sure what part 2 is. I’ll need to look it up on YouTube. Also does everyone one do the left handed swings ? I only do the right handed ones I hurt my shoulder last year doing the left handed ones and never went back to them.
I do and measure the left hand swings but I feel like I cannot do maximun effort swings without getting injured. It is more a feeling of having as much speed as possible with at least effort as possible. I think it helps my coordination but I don't know how much it helps increase my right hand swing speed.

I also measured them and I started with 100 with the green and now I have reached 120 mph some days... The thing I noticed is that best speeds do not correlate with the days I am in my best physical condition (the best speed with right hand swings do correlate)

I do the non-dominant swings to try and help with mobility on that side. I'm stiff as a board so any stretching is a bonus and they still feel very awkward and are still miles slower than my dominant side. Last session in the garden with the blue speed radar the green started at 125mph dominant side while non-dominant was only 101mph. I'm sure SuperSpeed said that eventually you could get both sides to near the same speed but that's never going to happen with me.

For stage 2 I just added in the heel stomp drill, I'm not sure what they have as protocol 2 nowadays. So I was doing 3 left and right of standard swings, 3 left and right of heel stomps, 3 left and right of step drills and then a final 3 green ones at the end.

Annoyingly, stage 2 is subscription only on their App - at the very least I think they could have had all the speedstick stages available and make other elements subscription :(

Do they not have it on their website anymore?

Just had a dig through my hard drive and found their old pdf manual.

That's great, thank you, very useful. I think they still have it, I just got sucked into using the app so quite disappointed the next cycle was locked!

That's really disappointing, I assume they are trying to copy the model of The Stack which has a subscription, but that gets you dynamic training which changes base don your performance, not to mention putting and short game training. Superspeed is just locking a static program behind a paywall.

The app only supports iOS17 and up, I can't even get it on my iPhone X.

Was on Trackman last night and did a speed session. Didn’t measure the speed sticks as I just used them to warm up/stretch and decided to try Bryson’s version of just smashing driver as hard as I could. Fastest swing was 107mph and I managed to button it as well with 156mph ball speed and 262 carry. Plenty of others in the 150’s ball speed but most were 40 yards left line drives that carried 210 and ran out 50 yards.

Controlled drives were in the 102-103mph range and carries in the mid 230’s to low 240’s.

It's all still available on their website , just on the app it's subscription.

I'd question whether the levels really matter at all.

The increasing volume sort of makes sense - you start off doing 3 reps with each stick for 2 exercises and then 3 maxed out (21 total reps) and gradually work up to 5 reps with each stick for 4 exercises and then max out (63 reps). The gradually building up makes sense but just staying at the top level once reaching it doesn't really make sense to me, in any other type of sports training, weights, running, cycling etc. you periodise. This is where you effectively build a base, then ramp up volume and/or intensity depending on the sport, hit a peak then have a period of active rest and repeat, this varies on the sport but is usually done in something like blocks of 8-20 weeks.

The exercise choices don't really make sense, what is the purpose of the different ones? I get that things like the step drill can help with sequencing, but it feels a bit random in throwing in things like kneeling swings. I'm sure these all have a purpose but it feels like a scattergun approach in case these address a specific issue you have. I think most people would be fine just doing normal swings through all the stages and maybe one move targeting their weakness if they know it.

The opposite handed swings have been covered to death, so the only thing to say there is that their is no research that suggests they provide any benefit. I'd actually guess that doing a movement most people are not well coordinated in alongside fatigue from adding workout volume with no direct benefit is actually increasing the risk of injury, so these are a net negative.

They break it out in to training and then maintenance blocks now, which makes sense to me. I wouldn't want to be doing the 60 odd reps all the time.
The opposite swings do feel very strange, I just name sure I'm fully warmed up!

I just went and checked it out, that's a nice improvement to the plan to have added periodisation.

I have the superspeed sticks, but both my daughter and I follow a much simplified program provided by a coach.

Yes I think it's more than actual doing something than the specific exercises, although the step drill seems popular.
30 mins a day 3 days a week and no need to go any further than my back garden it's an easy win I think.

I felt at if the level 2 lifting the left heel on backswing helped me get a few extra mph I only did two sessions last week as I went on holiday on Friday but I finished both sessions at 108 and 109mph it possibly could be because I’m 6 weeks in but I like the left heel lift.

Heel lift definitely works, I always get my fastest swings with it.

Also shows how bad my sequencing is when my slowest swings are always my step swings, those are usually the fastest for most people.

Do you know your sequencing is bad?

It's interesting the step swings are slower, as even at elite level they tend to be faster, just because you can use more lateral and vertical force. However, I would have thought the worse someone's sequencing is, the bigger the gain they can make with a step swing, as this almost forces better sequencing, the only exception being if it feels so unnatural you can't do it subconsciously. I guess in the latter case this could indicate sequencing is so bad it's unnatural, but it could also indicate that it's a new movement pattern you just haven't yet fully programmed, especially if you didn't previously play any other sports with similar concepts.
