Mid/Short Irons.....Striking it well, wee fade, but manageable, and possibly the better shape in terms of control.

Long Irons....Striking it well, again with a slight fade, but thats generally the shape of shot I have hit.

3wood/hybrid.....Absolutely brilliant. Cant complain.

Driver.....Its like a slice machine!

Ive just bought a Cobra S9 pro D. 9.5* stiff shaft.

My irons and woods both have stiff shafts in, and my 3 wood has the same shaft as my driver, but I just cant stop fading it!

Anyone any suggestions for a cure, and a new driver aint one, cause I am a skint student!!

Just an obsevation here as such Graembo.....But why is a 6 handicapper slicing a driver....
If it were me i would look at the fundementals.....
Grip
Posture
Alignment
It must be something to do with 1 of these!

You don't think 6 h/cappers slice the ball? Blimey, you've got a shock coming

Slice is the clubface is too far open to the swingpath. You either need to close the clubface by aiming it LEFT of your intended target at address OR change your swingpath.

If you close the clubface too much your ball will go dead straight left, more than that and it'll actually curl into the trees with a hook!. If you get it just right you should hit nice soft long 300yd pull-fades...... :p :p

You might need to close the face 1° or it might be 5° or even 10° depending what your swingpath actually is... (I can't see from here!) :D

I know it probably happens occasionally J, :D :D
but off 6 shouldnt you at least be able to figure out what your doing wrong if its the only club in the bag thats giving you grief......

Not really. Most 6 h/cappers have a pretty solid short game which keeps their scores going. In general I don't think a 6 h/capper knows any more about golf swings than a 10 or 15 h/capper.. they just get the ball in the hole in less shots.

Quite often it's because they point their club at the target and their swingpath is reasonably straight through the hitting zone so they get a shot they can live with, when it goes wrong they haven't got a clue what's causing it. If it only happens occasionally then it's called "Having a bad round" and they put it down to timing or some other excuse... if it happens a lot then you need to start digging for a cause/solution.

Try leaving the driver out of the bag while you work on it down the range. You'll get less frustrated on the course and will make a positive concerted effort to fix it on the range so you can have it back in the bag.

There are probably a number of factors in it, the fact I havent played much over the winter being one.

Ive filmed my swing and looked at it over and again, and I feel that IM making the exact same swing with every club in the bag.

I need a quick fix,as Im going to Tenerife to play on friday!!

You have a choice. Leave the driver at home next week, or....
Try aiming it down the left side and swing smoothly.
The more you try to NOT slice, the more it slices.
As your driver has a much straighter face with less loft, the more the driver will slice or hook.
Learn to live with the fade and play for it.
After all, a fade will listen, a hook wont :)

Ahem, just bought a new driver, and looking at the clubs in your bag, hell the scotty is worth more that all my clubs, skint student!?

Do you think I should leave my putter and wedges at home next weekend, Bob?

Yesterday was out first medal of the year & as I've been scoring well all winter was quietly confident.

But, despite hitting over 70% of fairways & 60% of greens in regulation I finished 14 over par.

I took 38 putts!!!!!!! Mainly becasue I couldn't get the ball anywhere near the hole with my first putt.

I definately need to get to the practice green with my new V-Easy.

Oh missed this bit

"I need a quick fix,as Im going to Tenerife to play on friday!!"

"cause I am a skint student!!" must a be a new use for the word !!!!!!!

Crazy Face,

My clubs were bought by a combination of student loans, travel expenses and having 3 jobs, all acquired over about a 12 month period, and my week in tenerife was funded by my family for my 21st birthday!

As for the Scotty....EBay is your friend!

I'd take the driver and see what happens. The more you worry the tighter you'll be over the ball and as we all know Tension Kills. If it isn't working, the warmer air and drier conditions will let you hit a 3 wood anyway.

My guess is that you are trying to hit the ball too hard with the driver and allowing either your shoulders to turn too early or your right hand/arm is too dominant.

Something I have been working on is to try and swing the club with left arm/hand it certainly helps accuracy.

I wouldn't worry about it Graembo. There is often a negative perception of how students live and spend. I had a great time at Uni doing an undergrad and masters. I had the most disposable income I've ever had a combination of loans and wages. I've just aged 30 finished off paying my loans. People often forget you have to pay them back.

Enjoy Tenerife and your 21st. I may be a high handicapper but I carry no woods or 3 iron and intermittently drop the 4iron as well. That way I have supreme confidence in my ability to strike every club in the bag. Whether I do is by the by, we'll all hit bad shots. But the key is I'm not building any negative feelings/memories of those long irons/woods. Just plugging away on the range and with lessons.

As nothing more than a social experimentbplay a round without the driver and let us know how you get on. T
