Played a society day today at seaford head golf club.... 13th hole, 460 yard par 5.... hit a nice drive slightly up the right hand side just over 270 yards. Left with just under 190 into the green and playing down wind I stiff an 8 iron to around 9 feet.

I've never even come close to an eagle before but knew this was chance.... tugged the putt slightly left but dead weight it dropped into the cup. Absolutely over the moon!

Hope I don't have to wait too long for another.

Well played and enjoy the moment.

Its going to be a long time before I achieve an eagle.

Very well played adam.

I had my first ever eagle this year and then only had to wait for the next par 5 for my second. I had my 3rd the very next round aswell. It's all about getting that monkey off your back (never been close since and not likely to any time soon)

Similar story to me

Never had one in 10 years playing

Then i stick a wedge from 60 in for 3 on our par 5 second, Roll in a 20 foot downhill putt on our Par 4 10th and finally roll in a 30 plus footer on our par 4 14th.

This happened over three consecutive weeks. Was pretty mental to be honest.

To the OP

Great effort. Getting the birdie monkey of your back is a great thing....sinking one for an eagle is very special:thup:

I had my first eagle about 10 years at High Elms - hit driver 8 iron into the par 5 9th then sunk at 20 footer. 2nd was on the 15th At Darenth Valley back in June - 3 wood then 3 hybrid to about 6 feet. my last one was earlier this year at a little local 9 holer as I was pushed for time - 6th hole is a 250 yard 4 and I holed my 2nd from the greenside bunker.

has anyone got an albatross or come close? my best is about 10 feet from the pin on a par 5

I had my first eagle a few weeks back. Father-in-law had driven the green and was sitting about 7ft from the hole for birdie, it looked stiff from the tee and all the talk was about him getting his first eagle. I knock a hybrid down the middle and leave myself 109 to the flag. Pull a SW and catch it perfectly, lands just short of the pin and rolls straight in for an eagle. I couldn't believe it. I'd never holed out from anywhere further than 15-20 yards, so to hole out from 109 was awesome. We then get up on the green, I pick my ball out of the hole and we wait for the eagle putt. He ends up completely mis-reading the break and knocking it 3ft past but makes birdie. I almost felt bad for beating him to an eagle. To make it worse, it was his Birthday.

I would not feel bad about it being his birthday.

It gives you an excuse to remind him in great detail every year on his birthday until the end of days.

Ha

I bet he would love that :D

Congrats to the OP - well done sir, a great golfing milestone.

Never had one, as I almost never go for Par5's in 2, although I did lip out at Gullane 2 last week for one. A simple 4footer...raging !!

Nailed a (significantly) wind assisted drive ( and rock hard bounce) almost 300y, and nailed a 6 iron 190y (same wind and bounce haha)

Need to improve my putting.....

Driver 8 irons to par 5's are not really true eagles in my view. sorry

I played in Dubai 2 years ago where one par 5 was a driver and sand iron every day, it was 495yds and tight but with warm weather and elevation it was a short par 4 in reality.

Irrelevant what clubs you use, if the card says Par 5 and you make a 3, it's an eagle, end off, You should save the Dubai story for weddings, people will love it.
Well done to the op and hopefully more to follow.😃

excellent point and I cant argue with it. some are happy with easy golf, you are one of them obviously. Why not join a 4800yd par 60 and shoot 69 everyweek, you'll feel like a real golfer then

"True" eagle ?!

What's a true eagle ?

Is there also true birdies ?

Your missing the point, on any given day it could a Cat 1 or Scratch Golfer doing exactly as you say or a mid or low handicapper playing Driver, 3 wood or into the wind, uphill, downhill etc etc, to dismiss it as "not a true eagle" is a bit harsh and simplistic.
That's the beauty of the game to me no 2 players are the same.

Ha ha ha ha 😆 no need to be sorry. You're talking rubbish. Have a nice day.

and you are getting ridiculously over excited about a birdie. enjoy your golf.

2 under par on a par 5 isn't a birdie - it's an eagle

What club someone hits to gain that eagle doesn't make a blind bit of difference - it's an eagle plain as simple

Its a tough score to make on a hole and when someone makes one it is something to be excited and chuffed about .
