I can't speak for the OP, but I guess he wouldn't be too worried that peeps either agree or disagree with his opinion. I think it is more about the strength of some of the comments in disagreeing with the OP. Calling his opinion things like drivel is uneccesary and uncalled for.

Whats wrong with saying drivel............too sensitive. It's amazing that the best courses in the world are seen as overhyped by some.

My apologies - I think I said something to that effect. I've obviously mis interpreted your original post.
No problem mate, I'm not getting wound up by this just totally shocked at the reaction it has caused.

Think I would have got less of a reaction if I'd said my local muni is better than Augusta ;)

It's amazing that the best courses in the world are seen as overhyped by some.

But they often are! I have met 3 people that have played Augusta, 1 as British Amateur champion in the Masters and 2 as members guests in normal circumstances. Guess what......not one of them raved about the course. All 3 said that the experience was phenomenal, Amen Corner was brilliant and the aura was truly special. But what people forget is that when all the grandstands are taken down and the course returns to normal, it is completely different. Have a look on google earth at Augusta, the 18th green for example is in the middle of a wide open field!

Done this a few times and couldn't agree more! Even with the galleries it appears quite a wide course but without them it looks like a putters course! Obviously you can't see the changes in elevation but it does look the wrong side of ordinary!

Apart from the West, which is better and more interesting, and most of the Kent coast links?

In your opinion. We played both in November, ten of us, and am pretty sure not one preferred the West over the East. GM seems to rank the East higher as well.:p As for the Kent coast, St Georges may be in the running, and ranks highly because it is an Open course, but the others ?

I used to know an Augusta member and he told me that people have no idea how hilly the course was.

It is only in recent years, with different camera angles, we see this on television.

Why do you say that? You obviously love the course, I don't. I would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Muirfield is totally [to use your words] under-hyped.
You will find that most people who play it love it and talk about it.

You did not.
I respect your views but a huge majority of golfers disagree with you.

Funnily enough I was speaking to someone last week who had been there and I remarked that the tee shot from the last hole now looks as though you would need to thread it through the eye of a needle but he said that TV gave a totally false impression and there was actually "acres of space!"

The best compliment I can pay Royal Aberdeen is, it's front nine is on a par with Hillside's back nine. If they put both together in one 18 no UK course that I've played would get anywhere near it.

Surely you don't need to go as far as Aberdeen for a great front 9 (though Hillside's is fine by me). Just down the road at Formby will do (I don't even mind the blind 2nd on 6, though would have liked a pin sheet or board). Not so keen on the pheasants squawking at the top of my back-swing so often that it was more off-putting when they didn't!

After having played Formby last Sunday, no you don't have to go that far for a great front 9.

The point I was making, was if you were trying to put 2 of the best seperate nines together, from my experience it would be Hillside's back 9 and Royal Aberdeen's front 9. Simples.

The 6th does have an elongated flag though, so not totally blind, especially if you have a DMD.
