Most nervous tee shot?

Following on from the comment in another thread about nerves on the first tee in a forum meet what was the most nervous you've ever been on a tee shot?

Not played in a forum meet yet but mine was playing in the Evening News Competition (name escapes me) round the Braids in Edinburgh a good few years back.

My work had entered a team and were 1 short, asked me to play. I said yes although this was when I had given up golf due to football and hadn't played in well over a year.

Playing with a very good player as my partner and he says to me "you can tee off on the first" as we wander across.

Magic. Dozens of people stood round the tee, Evening News photographer stood taking pictures of the tee shots.

I was absolutely bricking myself.

To this day I can remember the feeling of horror stood there teeing up the ball, felt physically sick and could hardly hold the club!!

Thankfully I got a 4 iron away down the middle, horrible experience though.

Oh, and we got thumped!

the first time i played the old course at St andrews. my girlfriend and her mother came to watch so they decided to get the starter to make an announcement saying who i was and what golf club i came from. this was in the middle of august on a lovely summers day and there was easily 30 people standing watching and cheering, nerves got the better of me and snap hooked one down 18 lol! was still in bounds though

The first time i played the old course at St andrews.

Same as that.
Only played it the once, and have never (ever) been so nervous on a 1st tee in my life (although the Trilby tour event at Bearwood Lakes ran it a close second).

Proceeded to oink it into the valley of sin by the 18th green and hacked my way up the fairway, much to the amusement of my playing partners.

As a rule I tend to like the pressure of a few watching/getting ready to rip the p*ss.

However a few year's back I was playing in a club match for Doncaster Town Moor Vs Wheatley GC and been the shy type I had made quite a fuss about the fact I had won all my club matches up untill now. So we were 1st out Vs there 4hc vice capt and been a hot summers day there was around 20 plus there. Any how my turn on the tee and the piss taking was in full flow as I stepped up and pulled the arse off it about 15yrd left into the tree,s LOL.

So I am putting the above down to been nervous!

Without doubt it was at Bearwood Lakes 2 years ago.
I'd won a competition to play with David Howell, Mike Harris and a guy from Nevada Bob's in a 5 hole scramble. Stensen, MAJ and Kjeldsen were there too.
We tee'd off first in front of cameras, 50 odd people and a Pro who beat Tiger!
Managed to get one in the fairway - God alone knows how.

The most nervous I've witnessed was way back. I'd qualified for the Rover Cup through the club Medal. It was a Pro-Am at Enfield. We got announced on the tee. The amateur I was playing to 4 goes to get his ball on the tee, his hands were shaking so much. B'stard went on to win it!!

My first ever County Champs. Announced onto the 1st tee, about 30 watching + about 30 other players milling around the putting green, really not convinced that I was good enough to be there.

Pegged it up and went through my pre shot routine, deep breath, stepped in to address the ball and just nudged it off the tee!!!! Felt like I was in slow mo as i put the ball back on the tee and had another practice swing, convinced that every one was talking behind my back.

Managed a pure necky cut which must have gone 190.

For me must have been the Beckford Bowl about 9 or 10 years ago.

Interclub knockout, scratch, 36 holes (Foursomes, singles).

First group out in the morning, 20+ people all around scratch (which I was nowhere near, last minute sub) watching and the guy I'm playing foursomes with tells me to tee off on the first.

Felt like swinging a lead weight and time did seem to stand still for abit.

I managed to snap hook the ball so badly I missed the gorse lining the fairway and get it onto the 18th. We won the first and had a really good game.

First ever event as a pro, was only regional but was crapping it all the way round! shot 78 with an 7 & a 9!

Will be the first tee at Machrihanish next weekend. Apparently a 200 yard carry across the Atlantic ocean!!

for me it was my first ever medal.. never been so nervous and excited about anything like this before, how I drove to the course I dont know.

I had never been to the golf course before on medal day and did not have a clue about anything.

I stood on the tee and hit my Mizuno widec driver ( which was tiny compared to everyone else's drivers ) and hit the ball up the left side of the 1st fairway and then 3 kids came along and stole my golf ball, I stood there in amazement as they run off, but the abuse these kids got and the laughter we had walking up the first helped me relax. I dropped a ball in the vacinity of where my ball was stolen and carried on my round.

1st at Merrick Park, Bournemoouth when I hadn't been playing golf too long and had a tendancy to top my shots. If anyone knows the hole, a top is probably the worst shot you can do there as it's only a par 3 but you need to go over a gorge/valley/dip and it's quite a way down.

I'm not great for first tee shots of the day especially with a crowd.

Last September at the Eden course, St. Andrews, final of the public course championship. Announcer says your name and you step on to the first tee, theres a crowd, ball spotters down the fairway etc,

I was bricking it.

First tee Royal St Georges under the gimlet eye of the caddy master. Already felt intimidated and overawed just teeing it up. I took a five iron and somehow managed to nobble it down the fairway.

Mine was at my first junior open when everyone had their names called out over a speaker system. There was quite a large group of people stood watching, I was bricking it but ended up hitting a decent tee shot. The rest of the day didn't go too well though.

Any driver shot where I have to get the ball up to carry over trees etc, I tense up and panick a little as I don't hit a high ball.

Having not played *that* much competitive golf, I would have to say my 1st tee shot two weeks ago during my 1st round with our club's "Sunday Club".

I was already getting banter for being the new guy from my other 3 playing partners...this got about a million times worse when I pulled out the R11 and the 4 groups behind us (all part of the sunday club) started giving me grief.

It was all I could do to hold it together and "fade" one down the right handside into the 1st cut.

Not really had one yet, although I imagine mine will be at the North Kent meet in April. Will be my first forum meet and first time playing with people I don't know.

It has to be the tee shot on the first at the Old Course.
My hand was shaking so much it was a struggle to place the ball on the tee peg.
All four of us were the same, with only about 20 people around.
Can't imagine what it would be like if it was in the Open.
